Square-Enix Unveils TGS 2008 Lineup

This year's Tokyo Game Show should be big for several different manufacturers, and that most certainly includes Square-Enix. We're not looking for any "megaton" announcements this time (although we still wonder about Kingdom Hearts III), but we will be looking for great new content.  Hopefully.

As you can see over at the publisher's official website, they have listed the titles that will be coming to TGS 2008. Among them are Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, even though we're disappointed that none will be playable. Those helpful little icons below each picture tells you if the title in question will be playable, and the only playable title that falls under Sony's exclusive umbrella seems to be Final Fantasy Dissidia for the PSP. We also see plenty of Kingdom Hearts up there, but no KHIII, and it's all the more disappointing to see games like Star Ocean 4 show up as Xbox 360 exclusives. And why the hell would you bring another Valkyrie Profile to the DS? Nobody who owns that system knows about VP; that's a PlayStation-oriented franchise (most recently, anyway). At least put it on the PSP, for crying out loud.

Anyway, there's Square-Enix's TGS 2008 offering, and we can only hope they're hiding a secret here and there. Otherwise, there isn't much to excite us; we've already seen plenty of FF-related videos and if nothing but Dissidia is playable, we kinda lose interest. How's about you?

Yeah I lost interest. AND it is VERY disapointing to hear that a new Valkyrie Profile game is only coming to the DS! All I have to say is WTF! Loved VP2 on the PS2, and VP for PSP, why not make another, maybe for the PS3? I'm sure money is involved somewhere in this...

Square Enix are taking too long to deliver just like Capcom's RE 5,hope is worth waitin.I expect both games to score 10 from numerous sites since it aint really a big deal gettin a 10 nowadays.

I'm excited for Final Fantasy XIII, square-enix impressed me with Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. i was put off FFvXIII from the 1st trailer, it looked like somthing out of an Emo's anime comic book........ but after seeing recent screenshots its looking more impressive. I'm hoping we'll get full new trailers this time, not just the same clips with a few seconds of extra footage.

They'll surprise everyone with an announcement of KH3, that's what I'm thinking. If not, we probably won't hear about it until E3 next year, and if not, DEFINATELY TGS next year, then we'll probably get to play the game bu 2012.

All I can say is Square-Enix just has no clue how to run a business. They say oh we want to westernize so I guess the way to do that is side with microsoft! They are very western not Japanese like Sony! But wait Sony people are getting mad at us... Ok toss em a demo of FFXIII that should make them so happy they dont even see that we are only sending like 1/4 of our titles to them

Square Enix is becoming more of a disappointment with all of their god damn releases. FF XIII going mutli-platform, Valkryie Profile going to DS, and @!%! SO4 going to 360 .. DUDE, SO2 and 3 have been on the Play Station. I don't care if it goes to the 360 console, BRING IT TO PS3 for crying out loud. I'm looking more at the new developing company, Level-5.

I'm willing to bet that MS made some type of agreement with SE to have them say something along the lines of "westernization", kinda like a subliminal message to americans or some crap.

SE needs to realize its ok to go multi platform to cover the costs but dont feed us some bull about westernization. You want to expand? fine but don't s**t on other systems and your fanbase in the process, thats a fast way to losing fans

Can open... worms everywhere. I hope the general public who are allowed into TGS and not given 5000 yen to cheer for Microsoft actually boo at SE. Showing more FF content is a pathetic ploy to keep people interested in a series that won't be out for ages now thanks to M$, and a waste of everyone's time. I don't doubt some people will eat it up, but the outrage on the boards is finally reaching the blind/deaf/dumb company and I think they may just be starting to shake in their boots a little. Dissida? Get real.
If SO4 is ever ported from the crapbox, they might as well just put it on the PS2 because it won't be next-gen by then and won't need the power of the PS3 to function. People will leave that series too.
SE gets a fail on this.

This is Rediculous. Why won't people say something about Star Ocean 4 be Shitbox exclusive? I've already written SQuare Head and told them they lost a loyal fan. Am I the only person who cares that we PS3r's are losing our genre to the shitbox? RPG's have no buiseness on the Shitbox PERIOD. we should start a petition to have the 3shitty stick with FPS's and action games and leave the RPGs to the big boys. Most Shitbox owners onwned a shitbox1 and they have NO clue what rpging is all about. Those guys only play thier games half assed and trust me I know most of my friends own a 3shitty. The beat a game and think they BEAT the game. then they complain about too much stuff to do in a RPG. OUR GENRE IS BEING WASTED ON THESE GUYS!! Do you agree? especially Star ocean 4. now i don't know about you guys but I had over 390 hours on SO:TEOT, and was really looking forward to spending another 300 hours on SO 4. PLEASE someone agree with me and let me know there is somone else who feels as strongly as I do about this situation with Square Head.

is it just me or are a bunch of developers acting like they're in a consistent state of "intern week" decisions?

lots of decisions are being made that seem like a good idea when you think of them, but start to fall apart upon cursory examination.

Like Monster Hunter 3. I would have been totally fine if it was coming to Wii, but on top of that they cut it for PS3.

What the hell kind of sense does that make? Cutting your longtime support base of Sony hardware users (in particular the PSP) out of your next numbered title? There's no money to be made in the practice of alienating customers.

The same seems to apply with VP and SO. I just hope another one of my favorite cult hits doesn't get cut from the Playstation line again, that might start to make me irritated...

I know this is a Playstation oriented site, but man, some of these comments are ridiculous.(not to mention, don't you get edited for swearing?) What exactly is wrong with SO4 going to 360(unless it never goes to PS3). SO was on the SNES and GB before it was ever on a Playstation system.

What's wrong with VP going to the DS? Don't the majority of handheld users have a DS so the chance of it being a system wide hit would be better than being another cult hit? SE is a business, I don't see why everyone acts like they're supposed to be all buddy and pal with them. Squaresoft and Enix didn't seem to stick to their roots with Nintendo now, did they?

I would have to agree with the Monster Hunter 3 thing though, as much as I love seeing it coming to Wii, I don't see why they cancelled it for PS3 also.(or perhaps there's still hope)

Perhaps if I only had Playstation systems and did not love videogames because they were videogames, instead of being what system they were on, I might feel different. I know I don't see the PSXextreme team have this blind fanboyism in their articles, and have more of a loyalty, rivalry attitude.

actually guys, I think they put these games on all these different systems so everyone will go out and buy each one on all the consoles, at least that's what it looks like. but if you think about they are the creators while we are there puppets buyin and playin all these games. so why should they really care what game goes where, they makin a whole hell of a lot of money regardless if, some even more than others.

I'd just like to point out that Star Ocean IV being listed as "Xbox 360" still doesn't mean exclusivity. Last Remnant is also listed as an Xbox 360 game, but will eventually be released on PS3. All we really know as of yet about SO4 is that it currently may, or may not be released on PS3. Being an exclusive and currently only being developed for one console are two different things.
