Fracture Demo Cracks PSN Next Week
Want another reason to log on and check out the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace? Okay, let's turn to LucasArts, who plans to release a playable demo of Fracture next Thursday, September 18!
According to Joystiq, the developer will let you see how to "create cover, solve puzzles and revolutionize battlefield tactics" before the official launch date of October 7 in North America and October 10 in Europe. And if you're thinking this is going to be just another futuristic shooter, this demo might help to revise your thinking. The biggest draw in Fracture will be something LucasArts calls "Terrain Deformation," which lets the player "reshape the landscape in the midst of frantic combat." Does this sound anything like the now-ancient Geo-Mod technology that debuted in the original Red Faction on the PS2 way back in 2001? Of course, this is going to be on a much bigger scale, but the concept of "reshaping" the terrain based on your actions in a shooter isn't entirely new. We're just hoping Fracture can stand out from the rest of the crowd; let's not forget that games like Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, and Killzone 2 are just around the corner...
But there are many people out there who have been anxiously awaiting Fracture, as much of the feedback thus far has been most positive. Obviously, we'll be downloading that demo with high hopes, and you will, too...right?
