Fracture Demo Cracks PSN Next Week

Want another reason to log on and check out the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace? Okay, let's turn to LucasArts, who plans to release a playable demo of Fracture next Thursday, September 18!

According to Joystiq, the developer will let you see how to "create cover, solve puzzles and revolutionize battlefield tactics" before the official launch date of October 7 in North America and October 10 in Europe. And if you're thinking this is going to be just another futuristic shooter, this demo might help to revise your thinking. The biggest draw in Fracture will be something LucasArts calls "Terrain Deformation," which lets the player "reshape the landscape in the midst of frantic combat." Does this sound anything like the now-ancient Geo-Mod technology that debuted in the original Red Faction on the PS2 way back in 2001? Of course, this is going to be on a much bigger scale, but the concept of "reshaping" the terrain based on your actions in a shooter isn't entirely new. We're just hoping Fracture can stand out from the rest of the crowd; let's not forget that games like Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, and Killzone 2 are just around the corner...

But there are many people out there who have been anxiously awaiting Fracture, as much of the feedback thus far has been most positive. Obviously, we'll be downloading that demo with high hopes, and you will, too...right?

Yes I will! It seems like forever since I was first excited for this game. I really cannot wait and I hope it doesn't turn out to be crap.

Game has stunning features but it could kinda be like a masseffect/halo on ps3... thats what im getting from it so far... like the armor, max online is 16 and weapons similarities. Video overall looks great graphics are not stunning though.

At E3 2007 I was really excited over this game. But from the screenshots ive seen recently it looks like they changed it a little bit. I remember feeling excited about Haze at that E3 too so ill wait to see how this turns out.

And yeah im going to be strained this holiday season as well with all the good games coming out. So even if this looks good I might just rent it because there are so many other games im probably going to buy first day.
