PSXE Best Of The Best Poll Update: Metal Gear Solid Leads The Way

Well, the first round of PSXE's Best of the Best Action/Adventure title is over, and as expected, Metal Gear Solid easily took the #1 seed for the second round.

As for the rest of the top 5, it was a pretty big battle, with only Resident Evil 2 slightly separating itself from the rest of the pack. Sypro: Year of the Dragon snuck into the fifth and final qualifying spot for this week, although for the life of us, we can't figure out why Castlevania: Symphony of the Night didn't make it. Widely considered to be one of the best PS1 games of all time, we firmly believed it would end up going head to head with MGS for the overall action/adventure victory, but...well, it's not up to us. It's up to you, the loyal reading public, who would rather vote for Spyro than Symphony. 'sigh' Oh well, we all have our own opinions, and it'll certainly be interesting to see which title nabs the Silver and Bronze medals at the end of next week. You never know what can happen; in the RPG competition, Chrono Cross barely made it into the top 5, then somehow came up and snagged the Bronze in the final week.  Here are the five action/adventure games that made it into the second round:

Metal Gear Solid
Oddworld: Abe's Exodus
Resident Evil 2
Sypro: Year of the Dragon
Tomb Raider

The poll for Round 2 is up and ready to go, so place your votes now! As usual, you can always discuss the results in official thread in our forums. Which one of those final 5 really is second best to MGS...?

Whats the point in having a second round? MGS is going to win anyway.

I'm still upset crash bandicoot 1 - 3 Isnt in there & Die Hard Trilogy, Spyro fails in comparison to the Crash Trilogy. You will be doing a survival horror poll wont you, that would be interesting. RE2 shouldn't be in the list.

a good survival horror poll competition:
Alone in the Dark - A new Nightmare ( I think , the one that was also on the Dreamcast.)
Dino Crisis
Parasite Eve II
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Silent Hill

Consider it.

I'm disappointed that Castlevania didn't make the cut as well. Other than Metal Gear, no other action game gave me more enjoyment. Heck I still play the game lol. How Spyro beat it is beyond me. Guess it's something I'm not supposed to understand lol.

Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, although the platinum edition for the PC is the version I played. It is beyond me how SotN is not in the top five. I almost forgot how awesome that game is until I played it on a road trip on my PSP. Definitely the best PS1 game on the PS store IMO, and have you tried finding this game anywhere now? $10 is a steal.

"MGS IV for the win !"

For the PS1? I don't think so.
MGS is gonna win solely because of MGS4, I'm betting a lot of people who voted for MGS haven't played the first one.

Shame that Twisted Metal 2 went out so quick.

MGS was the best PS1 game ever made, and that's why it's going to win. But Twisted Metal was great too.

I wish people would stop asking "why bother" if it's clear one game is going to win. We award three places of honor (Gold, Silver, Bronze) if you remember correctly, and no, we're not doing a survival/horror category because all of two names will populate the entire list.

However, we ARE doing a special PS1 category to round out the top 5 PS1 games of all time. It'll happen after the last poll (Sports/Racing) is over, and it will include any and all PS1 games in all genres that weren't previously nominated. I'm taking suggestions on which games should be on that list in the Poll thread in the forums. :)

Hey Ben, I was wondering why you choose Year of the Dragon over the original. Wasn't the first one was the best?
