Call Of Duty 6 Returns To Infinity Ward

Aw, they're taking turns! Isn't that cute? Share and share alike, we always say.

As most of you well know, Infinity Ward developed last year's award-winning Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, while Treyarch (who developed CoD3) have stepped up to handle the next installment for this year, Call of Duty: World at War. Well, to continue this trend, Activision CEO Mike Griffith has confirmed that the blockbuster franchise will once again return to Infinity Ward for Call of Duty 6. According to ShackNews, Griffith revealed as much with this statement: "In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6." That's good enough for us, and it'll be interesting to see which developer becomes the fan favorite. For now, it's certainly IW, just because CoD4 turned out be such a huge phenomenon, but we've heard nothing but good things about World at War, so you never know...

Griffith tentatively scheduled the sixth entry for "calendar year 2010," which also fits in with this trend of one Call of Duty title per year. They can do this because they keep switching the developer back and forth; one team always gets a year to start working on the next one! Seems like a smart move. Anyway, expect Call of Duty: World at War to arrive on November 5 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2 and PC.

well, this is interesting

my bet is Activision is pulling a Madden on us, except they deliver an excellent game every other installment, while getting people to buy the (allegedly) sub-par installments to tide them over until the big one coming the year after.

If Treyarch can deliver, then I will revise my statement. Until such time, I remain skeptical

Well this was obviously going to happen. IW and treyarch switching. I just hope they don't call it "Call of Duty 6." 6 is way too large of a number to have after a shooter. I think 5 is pretty ridiculous myself.

I bet it will be called "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and it will come out November 2009 on PS3, 360, and PC.

It will have something to do with the Epilogue chapter in COD4 with the plane and the hostage.

right on that is truely what i was thinking! I really want another MW. id also like to see some more of the sneaking missions. that was just ground breaking. i don't remember any game that has actually took wind into play as much as cod4 did with the sniping. sniping is not my favorite but its definatly replayable with infinity wards cod4.

Why is it that IW is not making the fifth entry again? Just because they wanted to?? I forget already, haha.

But at least we know CoD6 will be awesome for sure! No waiting and seeing, that is if they go modern again, I hope!

This is what they've been doing for years, I just hope that treyarch will start to make batter games that can compete with IW. It's a cool idea and a great business move.

I already knew this a few months ago but yes this is good.. It's also another reason why i feel like CoD5 will be a stupid idea considering Infinity Ward will go back to modern warefare anyway.

They know what the mass public want. They also know what made them money.

It boils down to that old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

One good thing is, is that cod5 is going to use alot of cod4 engines and will be like it from a developers stand point. the only huge differance will be the actual model skins and "time period". it should be alright. IW created its own game from the ground up, and now tryarch is stealing it. lol...

COD6 will be modern. Remember 'their taking turns'

COD3 = WW2
COD4 = Modern
COD5 = WW2
COD6 = Modern

If I'm correct. COD6 will be a day one purchase for me. ^_^

a new game per year..sounds interesting but they should have changed the title coz people will get bored with it..ioh look another call of duty..got that last year and the year before..whereas if it had a different name theyd be more enticed..but dats just my opinion.

Day 1 purchase for me...Im not wasting any time with WW2 in a video game, im down for documentaries and movies but games no more. Besides Infiniward did a godly job on COD4, specially on the Sniping.

Depending on how world at war turns out i will decide if this is good or just okay news. I really liked call of duty 3 multiplayer and cod 4 multiplayer turned out good but it seemed kind of weird not to have different class abilities. This is why resistance is number 1 on my fps list. It has both the reward system, different story/weapons, and class system.
