Metal Gear Solid Existence Spotted

Although Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a true-blue masterpiece, the hardcore fans have realized for quite a while that Solid Snake's story is over. Konami and Kojima Productions have made this much clear in the past, but there will most certainly be another Metal Gear Solid. Could it "exist" in a pre-conception period already?

According to Siliconera, the title shown in the picture here has been entered in the Japanese Trademark database. It's Metal Gear Solid Existence, and it's "made to be used with video games," so the news should be relatively clear. At this point in time, we have absolutely no information on any such project, but the first guys that always tend to know about this stuff are the trademark/copyright people. No matter where you are, this step must be completed at some point early on, correct? Now, because Konami registered the title, it's clear they plan on being involved with Existence, even though Hideo Kojima has said MGS4 was to be his last game in the series. So either we will have a whole new team handle MGS, or Kojima simply meant he's done with Solid Snake, and not with the franchise as a whole. The master creator has said in recent interviews he wants to do something different, but he has time for that; whatever this new game is, it's certainly a long ways off.

Anyway, let the debate and speculation begin. What is Metal Gear Solid Existence? Does it in any way relate to previous entries in the series, even if Solid Snake isn't included? Who might the main character be? Ah, so many questions...so little info. But it's definitely something to look forward to, right?

The MG series is over,

Just like how Alien finished with Alien III
& Crash Bandicoot when Naughty Dog left

Theres nothing else to tell in the MGS series, i dont want the series to turn into a bunch of floppy spin offs. We dont need to see anyone elses past or what happens after the events of MGS4, because its irrelevant.

metal gear solid makes too much money for them to just drop it, and we should all be happy with this news, as after all although the first few games was very very good, we new systems will alwayz equate to better games, so if we can have a another metal gear game on the ps3 i'l be very happy

Still playing MGS4..taking my time..taking in everything!!What an unreal game..im probably the slowest person throught each metal gear but i love every minute of it!! I reckon whatever Kojima decides to do next will again be unbelievable on so many different levels!!come on MGS5 Existence. Maybe a female soldier this time??

I'm in agreement with Arnold. I was expecting Konami to release a "subsistence" style version of MGS4 and as such I haven't got it yet (also due to financial constraints). But when I saw the MGS database to download off of the store it seemed likely that any extra stuff would come in the form of downloadable content. Hmmm... It would make sense for Konami to release "Existence" as MGS4 but also offer the stuff on the disc as dlc for those who have MGS4 already.

I'm wondering more if it's an edit of the game as a movie, just as the Existence disc for MGS3 Subsistence was. It could even be a compilation of all four games' stories retold in a film-like format, but I dunno. I don't think another disc based release would be cost efficient, really. They had to do it with the previous games, sure, but I think now, we're at a point where if they wanted to do another Substance or Subsistence they could release it on the PSN as a relatively cheap update/upgrade to the game rather than spend a great deal of money on another blu-ray release. I would prefer some subsistence type stuff, though. Playing the game from alternate perspectives, like Raiden or Meryl like how you could play through some scenerios with Snake in Subsistence.

I'm also wondering if it could be just a re-release of the original MGS using the MGS4 graphics engine. I've had a great urge to see the game redone with updated visuals -- not gameplay, that would defeat the purpose I think -- ever since Act IV of MGS4.

Hell, it'd be really sweet if they just smashed all three of the first games together along with MG and MG2 onto one blu-ray that'll play on the PS3. Heh.

I'm quite the Metal Gear nerd.

Correct me if I'm wrong but werent subsistence and substance called MGS2:substance and MGS3:subsistence? This title is Metal Gear Solid Existence which would lead me to believe it would be extra missions or an add-on to the story from the Shadow Moses incident. There could be tons of extra stuff that could be done pre-Shadow Moses or just after it.

Correct me if I;m also,but didn't kojima say it was gthe end of the solid series..meaning the next REAl Metal Gear would more like Metal Gear Liquid or something like that so idk maybe this exsistence is some more missions for MGS4.

Judging from prior titles, I'm guessing that it's re-release of MGS4, with extras. I'd assume it would include the MGO: Gene Expansion pack, bonus content, making of, cutscene theatre, that sort of thing. There's not much to improve on with the game itself, it plays beautifully.

Anything more to do with Matal Gear as a game is just simply great. Ok no Snake maybe thats not a bad thing as it will keep the game fresh and not go stale. :)

I'd welcome a MG1 & MG2 PSP remake, thats it , No spin offs with Radien after the events of MGS4 or seeing BB grow up, theres no need for such petty events.

I think Ultimadream meant a remake of the old school MSX2 titles that were included in Subsistence, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, not a remake of MGS1

i dont think ive read a single comment that aint a great idea lol. i myself would love to see a full production re-make of metal gear one and 2. they would both probly fit on 1 blu ray disk. metal gear solid has already bin re-made so another re-make of that i dont think would sell as well as a re-make of a game in the series that many of us havent played yet or havent bothered. even if all it is is a re-package of MGS4 with a bunch of new stuff and added features id get it. ANYTHING with kojima's name on it is worthy of spending our money on.

Kojima did say that he was thinking about Metal Gear 5. Im really anxious to see what this will be about and how it relates to the MGS series.

I think it's similar to the MGS3 Existence disc. If you didn't already know, that disc comes with the limited edition version of MGS3 Subsistence. It just ties all the cut-scenes together, to make it like a film. So I think that's what it is.

THey left Snake in such a horrible manner, why end it like that in MGS4? after all snake has done he was just left like that? WTF it's kinda rediculous if you ask me, unless they find a cure for Solid Snake I'm out I was really upset about that.

I tend to agree with the speculation that this is simply the subsistence version for MGS4.

I do disagree with everyone who said that the MG series is done. MG SOLID clearly is, as is the main story of Snake. I do think there is a severe possibility that Metal Gear itself is not even close to done. If you played it all through to completion, I think its very possible that Snake could still appear in a somewhat limited capacity as perhaps a mentor.

As far as not caring about anything in between the events or other storylines, if he ever makes a MG game based around this same universe...cmon...its Hideo Kojima. You would honestly discount a Kojima game just because it isn't directly about solid snake? Screw that, if Kojima's there then so am I.

its probably gonna be like substance or subsistance, and as for the new main character, it might be Little John, Raiden's son, when he's grown up, or like Johnny
