No Online Level Creation For LittleBigPlanet At Launch

Obviously, one of the primary selling points for LittleBigPlanet has always been the immense level of customization and creation. Not only can you outfit your own SackBoy, but you can also create entire levels from scratch using the game's in-depth and intricate building model. However, it seems the entire package won't be in place on launch day...

Evidently confirmed over at the official PlayStation forums, one of the game's developers has told us that "the ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released." In other words, while we'll be able to generate new levels with up to four people offline, the online creation/sharing feature won't be ready straight out of the box. When is this "first major update" coming? Well, he wouldn't tell us that, but he did say that this major online community feature is at the "top of the list," so it's clearly the biggest reason for that update. Even so, after hearing everything about LBP, many gamers may be a touch miffed when they bring home the game only to find online level creation isn't enabled. Let's face it; this game will thrive on the community, not on offline experiences - even if they are multiplayer - so it's essential that Media Molecule deliver this feature ASAP. Besides, it's one of the most hyped elements of this particular title.

LittleBigPlanet arrives on October 21 with beta testing scheduled to start on September 29. As soon as we dig up more information on the first update that will deliver online level generation, we'll be sure to let you know. We just didn't want you to be confused when you brought the game home on the 21st.
