Final Fantasy XIII Progress Report
For whatever reason, every time you turn around, there's another naysayer desperately trying to convince everyone that Final Fantasy XIII has been delayed. Then, Square-Enix quickly steps up to confirm that the hotly anticipated RPG most certainly is not delayed, and we move on.
Such is the case again today, although we have a few extra pieces of information that comprise this progress report update. During a FinalFantasy-XIII.net interview with Yoshinori Kitase, he has re-confirmed that FFXIII is still on track for its PlayStation 3 release, and development won't begin on the Xbox 360 version until the PS3 version is on a Blu-Ray disc. He also went on to say that the Scenario for the game is complete and the Artistic Side is "80% complete," which means FFXIII should be nearing the final stages of the process very soon. Most fans of the legendary franchise will tell Square-Enix not to rush; we want them to make the best game possible, but at the same time, it's tough to be eternally patient. To the developer's credit, they never really solidified an actual release date - the only dates you've seen have been estimates and speculation - and with this progress report, we might see the first real date very soon. Everyone is looking forward to the Tokyo Game Show in three weeks time; we'll definitely be seeking another update.
There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Final Fantasy XIII will be a landmark title this generation, so with every new piece of information, we inch a little closer to the finish line. And what a party it will be when this game crosses that finish line...

Progression to FFXIII Port to 360 ---> 0%
... Great... So Japan gets it and rejoices. We sit around for another couple months to play it... It just pisses me off that while they don't delay Last Remnant they will delay FFXIII. What the hell is that? I find myself liking Sony more and hating the Xbox 360 more just because of examples like this. I mean it's one thing to PAY not for a new IP but for an existing game to come to your console but it's a whole other thing to force the other console owners to wait. Grrr...
Other than that little tidbit stuck in the back of my mind, this is awesome news and I am extremely happy to hear that it's almost completed.

edit -- they have not looked at the 360's capabilities what-so-ever, Ghana. FF XIII is developed specifically for the PS3 and there is no plans to "downgrade" it to be at the same level as the 360's port. If FFXIII is not on Blu-ray DL then you can see it coming on a 1 DVD-DL (18ish gigs) .. but if it is DL, then that's a whole different story. Plus, I mean I really think it is going to be on DL with all the information, real-time CG animation, graphics and physics and all that stuff ... its like another MGS IV.

And all xbox 360 games already use dvd dl.
And the 360 version wont need to be downgraded. It just will be released in multiple dvd.
X360 already have fast vga, plenty ram for hi-res textures.
What im afraid is the loading time.
It will be horrible if the loading time is longer than lost odyssey.
Lost odyssey loading time is really annoying.
And isn't it good to see ff13 goes multiplatform?
More gamer will able to enjoy ff13.

not that I won't like FFXIII when i buy it and play it for 48 hours straight, fueled by ramen and Dr. Pepper mixed with Red Bull. It'll be a blast. I just have a gut feeling im gonna be going for 72 hours on FFXIII VS.
Dig?

Ben, do you know what's the maximum capacity?
And yes, for XIII the game is being optimized to suck the life out of your PS3's CELL broadband. This game will NOT be held back like the other freaking games that were port from or to because of the 360's Hardware and Capacity. So rest assured, guys. =) I'm getting the Demo from Japan as soon as it gets released. Thank god I've been watching anime for more than 4 years, I understand some Japanese! Hehe.

whoa! same here, im also can understand japanese because watching too many animes >_<
now back to DVD capacity....
DVD 9 a.k.a DVD DL = 8.5GB (or 9GB)
DVD 9 DS a.k.a DVD DL DS = 16GB (or 18GB)
using DVD DL DS is a bad choice. DVD DL DS discs have 2 sides. you need to flip the Disc to read the second side.
its much better, cheaper, and safer to just use 2 DVD DL.
now for FF13
FF13 is developed using CrystalTools.
FF13 created on PC using CT, and debugged on PC. then Square port it "on-the-fly" to PS3.
its not really "on-the-fly" but maybe CT can create codes compatible with PC and PS3 simultaneously. so Square not need to work twice.
then after FF13 PS3 released. Square just need to make CT able to compile codes to X360 compatible. ofcourse its involving modifying the engines and many more aspecs. because the Hardware difference between PS3 and Xbox 360.
but because X360 and PS3 is basically the same thing. both use the same architecture. both use the same IBM PowerPC as the base.
PS3 have more power in CPU, buw slow in GPU
x360 have more power in GPU, but slow in CPU
with all that, i hope square can release it on x360 in the same quality as PS3. not only that, square also can increse the texture detail too.
i think all multiplatform games should be released with the exact same quality.
the devs just need to think harder to get the same quality on all platforms >_<

As far as I have seen this generation there have not been that many earth shattering RPGs for the PS3 (or any) and the 360 has a very limited supply itself.
I say lets be thankful we can get it in either flavor. Gamers have a choice.
If anything i feel SE is doing a favor to all gamers by releasing it en masse upon multiple user bases in an environ spare of RPGames. If anything it seems they are doing the world a favor.
this of course is an opinion. no facts to base it on other then my life. I have my choice and i choose to Play it on PS3 the console i feel will allow them to do what they had intended. hell i may even buy it on 360 if it comes out later then the ps3 version just to compare (wonder if thats part of some evil marketing plan???).
All in all i feels its a smart move and a public service SE is doing by going multi platform with this release.
yet another innovation in the concept of FF itself in this new generation...

Hopefully this release will be done like Rockband 2 but in reverse. RB2 will have been released for the X360 over a month before PS3 version will be available.
It sucks, but we do have to wait. It would be nice to have the shoe on the other foot every once in a while. I am not trying to flame x360, but it is not fair that they can convince (pay) a developer or publisher to delay a completed PS3 game just because it is not yet been written to play on their platform.
I agree that people would buy a PS3 to get the game early. Maybe that is why MS is trying to hold the game until their build is ready as well...

DS is Double Sided. DVD DL DS also known as DVD-18
just google it if you want to know more.
and DVD-18 is already released. long time ago, a dvd video use this.
but because the cost and durability issue, DVD-18 is not popular.
@karneli lll
if FF13 use many pre-rendered FMV, im sure Square will release it in multiple discs. just like Mistwalker do with Lost Odyssey. They release it in 4 discs.
and Square work on PS3 first. so it will utilize all ps3 power.
it will be stupid if square not use all ps3 power.
