The Punisher: No Mercy PSN Exclusive

Okay, so the movies based on The Punisher haven't been very good, and if there have been any video games...well, we're not aware of them, and we don't wanna be, either. We're sure they exist, but they're probably not worth mentioning, right? Even so, we have faith that Zen Studios will make The Punisher: No Mercy a worthwhile title for the PSN.

Just announced today over at the official PlayStation blog, Zen Studios Managing Director Zsolt Kigyossy has revealed that this game is in development and they're not skimping on the technology just because it's a downloadable title. They're using the Unreal Engine 3 in this first-person shooter, and Kigyossy says their "main focus is to create an awesome online multiplayer experience with the style and grit from the Punisher's world, complete with characters like Jigsaw, Bushwacker, Barracuda, and even Silver Sable." He also reminds everyone that the entire studio is full of "Marvel True Believers," which hopefully means they won't sully Marvel's good name with another mediocre Punisher adaptation in another entertainment venue outside comics. Oh, and if you're wondering, this is an exclusive release for the PSN, so the Xbox Live Marketplace won't be getting No Mercy. There are exclusives and multiplatform titles online too, you know.

If you want to follow along with the progress and updates, visit the game's official site from time to time. Hopefully, we'll get more game details soon, along with a release date. And by the way, "Zsolt" may be one of the most kick-ass first names in history...and the fact that he works at Zen Studios makes it even more kick-ass.

You mean this one? The atrociously reviewed one?

Or the Dolph Lundgren one, which was only watchable 'cuz it had campy '80s stuff. ;)

I agree with soulja. When I read that line I was thinking, "How did he not like it?" I thought it was done very well. Now the 2003 Hulk movie...now that was bad. And there was a Punisher video game released in 2004 and I heard it was actually fun. Never played it though.

P.S. Gamespot gave Mercs 2 a 5.0/10. Can't always go with reviews.

Nooooo. The 2003 Hulk movie wasn't THAT bad. I still liked the artistic direction the dir./producer took.

Just goes to show everyone has an opinion about everything.

Good to see more PS3 exclusives.

Wait a minute, Ben didn't even write this lol. That makes sense because after reading this I knew it was different than how Ben and Arnold usually write. They usually aren't so openly critical to anything. Who's John Shepard? I haven't seen much of his stuff on here before I don't think. Still great article though, I don't wanna sound like I'm bashing John.

ooh crap....sry ben im just used to reading all the articles and the majority of them were written by you so i didn't notice this one wasn't done by you, i guess you're right nitekrawler you can't always go with reviews, in my opinion the punisher was an awesome movie, so much action. IMO the best way to find out what games are good or not is to experience them first hand and not by reviewers, everybody is a bit biased inside espeacially reviewers even if they don't notice it, its a natural thing even in me ;P

True thing. The only place I come for reviews is here because they seem totally objective and they back up the stuff they say is bad about games. Plus it lets me know what the gameplay is generally like. I use any kind of review as a springboard of sorts. Like a filter I guess.

yeah i usually go to gamerankings.com for an overall rating, they average out all the ratings from all the reviewer sites including this one, but i only go there for a first impression on what to expect, i never use gamespot since i found out they were biased due to the companies paying them, i read it in an article sum where i think it was here :S i forget but it regarded the kane aand lynch dead men ratings gamespot gave them

Indeed. Poor Jeff Gerstman. Ben! Go try to hire Jeff Gerstman! Sleep with him if you have to! Or get me to do it! I'll take one for the team! PSX would have all the great ones then!

The Punisher movie kicked all kinds of ass. I loved it. And as for the game, i never actually played it but i heard nothing but good things about it...mostly gruesome executions which sounded like a lot of fun to me. Sadly i never saw it at the video store in my area or even freaking wal mart for that matter

Why is everyone always dissing the Punisher movie? Thomas Jane is one of the best actors around, he just doesn't have any breakthrough roles or films. I always smile when I see this movie, because he did it perfectly and put on a great performance. Plus he spent about 6 months in the gym before the movie was filmed, just so he could enhance his performance. Anyway, it's cool that we're getting this game, not to mention the fact that it's a PSN exclusive!
