Rumor: Sonic Genesis Collection Going Next-Gen On PS3, 360
We know Sonic Unleashed is on the way - and we actually have high hopes for it, after doing the research and going hands-on at E3 - but Sega is also known for their compilation/collection releases, especially on the PS2. You should remember the Sega Genesis Collection that released not too long ago, and now, the latest rumor says Sega is bringing their cocky blue mascot's oldest adventures to the new generation.
As Strategy Informer points out, Amazon currently holds a listing for Sonic Genesis Collection for the PS3, and there's also a listing for an Xbox 360 version as well. Now, the site doesn't provide a release date and this is the first we've heard about such a title, but then again, it's not exactly a blockbuster release. This is one of those games that could easily sneak onto store shelves with little or no fanfare, so perhaps information like this is the only warning we'll have. Then again, there are plenty of old-school Sonic fans out there who have the next-gen systems, and maybe they don't still have the old Genesis. In that case, and provided this new collection doesn't cost the standard $60 (we doubt it will), Sonic Genesis Collection should be worth considering. Of course, we have to wait for the official word from Sega, but early retail database listings are often accurate. Well, sometimes.
We have an idea: perhaps it would make sense to release something like this along with Sonic Unleashed. You know, kinda like a video game version of "before and after." Maybe you even issue a promotion of some kind; buy Unleashed and get this collection for $10 less or something. What do you think?

I have often wondered the same thing!! Those were the days.First videogame i ever played in my life Sonic The Hedgehog...LEGENDARY
i think they should include it on the Unleashed disk.Surely it wont take up the full amount of blueray and all the megadrive ones couldnt have been that big either!!

you could fit the roms for all the side-scrolling sonic titles on a regular old CD. No doubt sega's gonna try and add some extras, but this looks like a re-release of Sonic Mega Collection.
It'll prob even have little bonus games if you have save file from other sega games, just like Mega Collection.
*sigh* and sega wonders why it's floundering...
C'mon, sega! I know you have it in you! Just one new IP, I dare you!
in fact, I Triple Dog Dare you to!!
