Valve On PlayStation 3: "We Don't Have The Bandwidth"
Before you finish reading this article, we sense your eyes will have rolled skywards at least several times.
1Up recently interviewed Valve co-founder Gabe Newell and marketing director Doug Lombardi, and they got on the topic of PS3 development. This isn't a fun topic for Valve, especially considering the unbridled hostility we've seen from PS3 owners in the past few years, all directed towards Valve's lack of support. Anyway, Valve just released a set of free updates for Team Fortress 2 for the PC, and they're also coming to the Xbox 360. Are they coming to the PS3 version of the game? Nope. Of course not. After all, Valve has no internal PS3 developers. Lombardi said as much, and Newell said this is the reason why EA handled the port of The Orange Box last year...which didn't turn out very well. As for the ongoing controversy surrounding Left 4 Dead, and whether or not it will go to the PS3, don't hold your breath. Newell said, quite simply, "we don't have the bandwidth. What the heck does this even mean? Couldn't they get the bandwidth if they wanted to?
Newell did say they are looking to get some in-house PS3 developers at some point in the future, but at this point, PS3 owners may not care very much. Some have just replied, "what are we really missing?" So far, just the best version of The Orange Box, but that's about it. Anyway, while it's good to hear that Valve will try to jump into the PS3 development waters at some point, they've got a long ways to go before they redeem themselves.

Do they mean a hardware thing like between the GPU and something else?
Are they trying to download a PS3?
What kind of response is that?
lol...I'm going to start using this as my answer to everything.
Troy, why didn't you take out the garbage last night?
I didn't have enough bandwidth.

What is most annoying, and baffling, of his attitude, really, is how dismissive he is to his actual customers. Sure, the average consumer won't know who he is or what he has said, but the fan base, which half-life franchise relies heavily on, will certainly know, especially those who were introduced to the series by the Orange Box! I know I was certainly looking out for Half-Life 3. The series had a great story, and the orange box, despite being unoptimally ported, was one of my favorite packs from this generation. But now, even though I have a 360, I'm not holding my breath, and if I do get it, i will definitely pick it up used... and not because I want to save money.

I bought the PC version a year ago and just bought the PS3 version 2 months ago and prefer to play the PS3 version because the port wasn't really that bad to me and the PS3 version is more convenient for me to play.

Look at what they do on the PC and you can see that they know what there doing when making great games it's just plain laziness if you ask me and alot of fanboyism.

It would have been simple enough to fib and pull the line "The PS3 is harder to program for cause we're not used to it" and people would just be miffed that valve hasn't gotten with the program. Right now i feel like an afterthought, and that valve can TOTALLY do without my money.
well, cool. I'm happy to oblige. I'll go spend my cash where it's wanted.
