The Last Remnant Gameplay Details
Even though it'll debut first on the Xbox 360, it's still coming to the PlayStation 3 at some point, and strategy and RPG fans alike should be looking forward to The Last Remnant. And if you have questions about the gameplay, a whole lot of details have just arrived.
As some of you have already learned, the battles will be fought "between friendly and enemy unions," and it'll be up to the player to hand out commands to the ally units. This sounds very similar to a real-time strategy game, and the commands in question probably won't be unfamiliar to strat/RPG buffs. If you're confident in the unit's abilities, you can just select "Tear them to shreds!" and be done with it, or you might have to choose a defensive option when backed into a corner. And if you want all the details, visit Forever-Fantasy.net, where they also have 70 new Remnant screenshots for your viewing pleasure. Also, you'll notice that Morale is a "Key Factor" in determining your success, which - again - isn't an alien concept to those who are used to standard strategy titles.
However, you'll also spot plenty of new features that will revolutionize the concept of the RTS, and that includes the fact that "enemy monsters freely roam the land." And in a throwback to the old days of Final Fantasy, when a foe is encountered, the battle will take place on a separate, zoomed-in field. Anyway, for all the rest, read up and see if this one appeals to you. And let's hope the PS3 version isn't far behind the 360 version.
