The Last Remnant Gameplay Details

Even though it'll debut first on the Xbox 360, it's still coming to the PlayStation 3 at some point, and strategy and RPG fans alike should be looking forward to The Last Remnant. And if you have questions about the gameplay, a whole lot of details have just arrived.

As some of you have already learned, the battles will be fought "between friendly and enemy unions," and it'll be up to the player to hand out commands to the ally units. This sounds very similar to a real-time strategy game, and the commands in question probably won't be unfamiliar to strat/RPG buffs. If you're confident in the unit's abilities, you can just select "Tear them to shreds!" and be done with it, or you might have to choose a defensive option when backed into a corner. And if you want all the details, visit Forever-Fantasy.net, where they also have 70 new Remnant screenshots for your viewing pleasure. Also, you'll notice that Morale is a "Key Factor" in determining your success, which - again - isn't an alien concept to those who are used to standard strategy titles.

However, you'll also spot plenty of new features that will revolutionize the concept of the RTS, and that includes the fact that "enemy monsters freely roam the land." And in a throwback to the old days of Final Fantasy, when a foe is encountered, the battle will take place on a separate, zoomed-in field. Anyway, for all the rest, read up and see if this one appeals to you. And let's hope the PS3 version isn't far behind the 360 version.

Still don't understand why they wouldn't just release both versions at the same time, but if they're gonna hold on the ps3 version then they better optimize it perfectly to make up for the delay, I'm definetly gonna get this when it comes out

I feel publisher are hurting themselves by having separate release dates. If the game has a simultaneous release the uninformed gamers are going to have less of a chance to hear negative word of mouth if the game is bad so in turn they have a better chance to recoup the cost of development cost. In addition by having a simultaneous release publishers are less likely to alienate their consumers which like make them more likely to buy IP.

Im pretty bothered by them not releasing both versions this year. Instead we have to see how the Xbox 360 one does, and hope and pray that we have this game very soon next year.

It's the same old song and dance guys. They're saying it's just taking longer to develop for the PS3.

Hopefully this comes out close to White Knight Chronicles. It would be nice if Square-Enix could see the market they missed, because of their lollygagging.

"let's hope the PS3 version isn't far behind the 360 version." I do hope you mean time and not quality

Um, that kinda didn't clear much up for me. Is it a strategy rpg or a turn based rpg, or a turn based rpg with strategy battles involved?(Like Suikoden) Or a strategy RPG with turn-based battles involved (like nothing) It kinda matters a lot since I don't have the patience for strategy games, i.e. I could see where people would love Disgaea 3 but it just isn't the kinda thing i can reasonably plunk down the cash for if its gonna take 12 years to play out the story. Can someone clarify?

Oh yeah, and I'm suspicious of the "First on Xbox 360" ads that M$ is always playing. I dont care about Guitar Hero, or was it Rock Band? Those meld in my brain. But you can't tell me that it wasnt done in time for simul-release. Just puttin that out there, mull it over friends...

SE hates PS3 or just prefers the 360. I remember an IGN article they wanted to tame Sony. Hmmm.... Sony is third in the console race they're showing the world that they're going to publish two exclusive 360 games one of which they are helping with(IU and SO4). They are delaying the PS3 version of this game yet they're not doing that to the 360 version of Final Fantasy 13 even though there will be by then a finished ps3 product. Yeah SE wants to tame Sony especially with the PS3 behind the console race and the PSP behind the handheld race. I'm just glad Level 5 is still alive and kicking.
