Two More Characters Revealed For RE5, Wesker Is Back!

It's not going to make it out this year, but that doesn't mean there's any less hype or interest. In fact, given the delay, there will probably be more interest when Resident Evil 5 finally releases in early 2009.

Thanks to some new Famitsu scans of the game, we've learned of two new characters that will be included the game: first up is a familiar face to all fans of the long-running franchise, a big, sunglass-wearing punk who goes by the name of Albert Wesker. He first popped up in the original Resident Evil way back when, then kept returning in subsequent entries, including Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4. Some might say an RE without our buddy Wesker is no RE at all, so this is good news. The other confirmed character is a new member of the RE crew; it's Excella Gionne, the president of the African headquarters of TriCell Pharmaceutical. She's a corporate executive, yes, but she's also a raging middle-aged hottie. You can check out the scan over at Kotaku if you don't believe us. Anyway, she's new but Wesker most certainly is not. Welcome back, ya evil bad-ass.

As more information becomes available for RE5, we'll continue to keep you updated. There's no denying it's going to be one of the biggest titles of 2009, and hopefully, it'll launch before spring. Stay tuned.

Nah, "dying" was actually his plan. Watch the Wesker files. Those are great.

Yipeee! Wesker, my buddy is in there now I really think this will be the best resident evil game ever. There trying something new and I think it's going to turn out great.
The lighting and darkness playing tricks with your eyes is going to be so cool seeing that when you be in a bright area, then go to a dark area and a monster tries to attack you is going to be creeapy and fun can't wait.

RE characters never die. RE will never die. What are you talking about? If they get tons of money, they'll make characters come back again and again.

I think RE 5 will sell almost or like GTA IV in 09,it coulda been Gow 3 but it's not multiplatform so i reckon RE 5 is gonna be the best-sellin game in 09.

Capcom has stated this will be out on March 13. Gamestop has it shipping that same day. Now, granted, release dates do slip; but I'm fairly certain this game won't, so you don't need to "hope" to much for this game to drop before spring John.

I knew Wesker was gonna have a role this time. I bet it'll be a bigger role this time around as well because with Chris as the main character, Wesker won't be able to stay behind the scenes. He's my favorite villain of all time so I'm super stoked now. This can't come fast enough for me!

what happened to the big bad ass that kept saving Jill in the first Resident Evil? Barry!!! Did he die or something cuz I thought he ended up either being alive or dead depending on your ending...I guess they thought he's better off dead?

Oh Barry. lol I loved him. Actually he is still alive and working with different anti-Umbrella agencies. Remember, he saved Jill once again at the end of RE 3? I'm not sure why he hasn't made any more appearances lately but I wish he would. I also wish they would bring Rebecca back for more. I HAVE heard, however, that Barry and his gun are doing well.

I, like everybody else, am waiting for this one as well. I'm just not as excited. Seems like I'm the only one who doesn't particularly care about the series turning into a more run-and-gun action series than the more puzzle-based survival horror that it used to be. Part 4 was great, don't get me wrong, and I know RE5 will be as well. I'm just sad to see it deserting some of the main elements that made the series so revolutionary in the first place. And I'd like to see them make another Outbreak.

Well they are supposed to be returning to the thematics that were in the original RE's. I'm not sure if that means more puzzle solving or not but it definitely means that it will be more "survival horror" oriented. I can tell you right now that running and gunning won't cut it in RE 5.
