Euro Gamers: Wipeout HD Crashing!

Most PlayStation 3 owners have been anxiously anticipating the release of Wipeout HD, which just launched today on the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, European gamers around the Internet have reported major difficulty in getting the title to actually play correctly.

From a variety of forum threads, originating in the official European PlayStation message boards, to numerous topics found in other major forums like NeoGAF, Euro gamers are clearly upset. Apparently, one has to download two files for the game; a big one and a small one, and many are having difficulty obtaining both. Furthermore, those who have successfully downloaded the data have found that the game keeps freezing when they try to enter a race, which is understandably annoying. As far as we know, this is only affecting the European region, but apparently, it's a widespread problem across the pond and big enough to gain plenty of attention. If you want to read up on the issue, head on over to the SCEE forums; there's a very large thread in there, filled with users who are both confused and irritated. We'll let you know if U.S. users are encountering this same problem, but so far, we haven't seen much evidence of that.

If you're in Europe and have successfully or unsuccessfully purchased and downloaded Wipeout HD, feel free to let us know all about it. We'll also wait for an official reply from SCEE to see if Sony will release a necessary patch at some point.

I seriously dont get how this happens.Its not like the developers dont have a ps3 and cant run checks ,like wtf.
Im not sure but does this happen to xbox live also,for some reason i doubt it.
I warn you Sony if you f**k up LBP and R2 ,i will get you.......like a spider monkey,lol.

I downloaded the 2 files easy. They were both there when i payed. Been playing, and looks great, works perfect!

Okay, after reading that thread it seems if you have over fifty friends in your buddy list it will crash. I guess part of the code was written before the switch from fifty max buddies to a hundred max buddies, so if the game registers over fifty it freaks out.(Not sure on this im just paraphrasing someone on the thread) The offline seems to be working fine, and it doesnt matter if you download the small or large file first.

this game (imo) is one of the best full games to grace the PSN.

No problems here so far. Is this across all PS3 models or just specific to one?

I have a 60GB PAL release model and it's been all fine and dandy.

I wasn't calling pavlovic a liar, I'm just saying the problem might be specific to particular models, or how the memory is allocated to one's files. That aside, I ripped my sound tracks from wipeout xl,and 3. I played zone, and has anybody noticed that the music gets dj mixed at particular points! Very cool. On a personal note, I was playing zone to "firestarter", and just as the crescendo came to the very end, my ship blew up into brilliant cubes of light...Only Wipeout can deliver those moments of supernatural synchronocity!
