Kojima Has Ideas For MGS5...Doesn't Want Team To Use Them

By now, all Metal Gear Solid fans know the franchise didn't stop with MGS4. Solid Snake's story may be over, but there's no chance the series itself is dead, as stated several times by members of Kojima's team, including Kojima himself. But what will they do for MGS5?

Well, Kojima sat down to talk about it with 1Up, and as it turns out, he has three concepts in mind already. Now, again, don't go theorizing that they have anything to do with Snake and the entire series as you've known it so far. It should be an entirely different story, although we have no idea what those three concepts might be. For Kojima, though, it will matter how this plays out; as he says:

"I have three concepts for MGS5 already. What would be ideal for me with MGS5, though, is that we don't do those. If the team picks one of those concepts, I have to get involved again, which I don't want to do. There are already so many good ideas from the staff, so if we select one of those, that would be really good. At that point I could really rely on them and take the step back to be the producer, which is the ideal situation, I think."

Here's where we get confused, and maybe it has something to do with a faulty translation. But if he came up with three concepts for MGS5, why wouldn't he want to be involved? You mean to say he just came up with those three for the team that's going to do it, and if they take one, he'll come back? But it would be "ideal" if they didn't take one of his ideas and he didn't come back? ...Kojima, I think your fans would disagree. Pretty sure many of them believe MGS ain't MGS without you. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens regarding the fifth installment; the headlines ought to be interesting leading up to it, that's for sure.

How do you know? We should try MGS without him for once and see how it is.

The series should be treated like Marvel/DC comics. It should be handed down to newer talents! I have a fondness for Stan Lee's work, but I love Stern's and Bendis's take on Spidey. So I'm sure all will be good if Gear is in good hands.

Or, rather, FF 12 wasn't created by the "main team," right? But that didn't stop it from being one of the best in the series. Also, my favorite Fantasy (sorry 6).

Never look for greatness without talent. MGS without Kojima is like playnin your PS3 with a sixaxis on a SD television, it will probably be ok, but with Kojima your gaming with the dualshock 3 and a 60 ich 1080p plasma. The possibilities are endless.

Yea i still like sixaxis also, even though dualshock 3 makes errthan complete,Sony where in a way very RIGHT dat excludin rumble wasn't somethin really really bad.
2 of ma friends came to ma house to try my ps3,one held the sixaxis n was like "The way Sony made the controller so light is great" AND the other with ma dualshock 3 had no comments cause he felt it was still the same ol' ps2 controller, they both didn't know they had different controllers.
It's damn obviuos Dualshock 3 is way better than sixaxis but am sayin it wouldn't have been a big deal if there wasn't rumble!Anyway i know this off topic, pardon me Ben ma dude.

Faces change, but the Good Lord is always there, and he grants excellence to whom he pleases and who actually earns it. I thought DMC could not be outdone, especially after DMC2. But it was by DMC3se, and that game was made by a different lead. Samething with the wipeout series.

Sounds like the a possibility that the great one will be back to create MGS5, if the staff pick 1 of his concepts. That's the best news i've heard in a while.
This is the curse of the great artist, one must be willing to put one's creations before oneself. It is worth it of course, so i do hope Mr Kojima chooses the way of the artist.

MGS4 ended the series with respect, there is nothing that can be done now! The story is over, & dont give me the usual horse **** about it just being Snakes tale that is over, Every characters story is finished!

Kojima had already twice said this is the last one. once with 3 and then again with 4. he wants to keep his word this time.

The only explanation I can come up maybe is that he's asking them not to use any of those concepts so he can use them at a later date on another project. And not necessarily a Metal Gear project. It could be something totally new that he wants to create. In either case, the worst that can happen is that he comes back to make another Metal Gear. Best case, we get a new Metal Gear that starts a new storyline with all new characters and a completely new game from Kojima. Either way we all win.

I love Kojima and MGS and all but please just give it a break. =\ Jeez, The one game I really truly want from Kojima right now is Zone of The Enders 3 (ZOE3) or even Anubis: Zone of The Enders/Zone of The Enders 2: The Second Runner (ZOE2) remake for PS3 [yeah i did that for ppl who knew the jap and english titles of the game =)] Gosh, ZOE series imo is THE BEST mech-like fighting game yet. I mean armored core is good and all but it's just to complicated to pilot everything and the fluidness of ZOE is just to great, the combat is great, the abilities are great, the game is just great =O I want a new one T_T

=D I guess Kojima doesn't want to share.

and if SOLID snake's story was over, why would the next game be metal gear SOLID 5? wouldn't they start a new series name?

Not necessarily. The first two games in the series had Snake in them, and there was no ''Solid'' in the title.

the way i interpreted what kojima was saying is this. his staff have ideas so if they go with that then they know pretty much what they have to do but if they pick kojimas idea then they wont entirely know what to do without his guidance and vision. if kojima has an idea than he will stay to make sure it comes out as close to what he wanted as possible but if his staff has the idea then its up to them to make the vision a reality and he can basically take a back seat and run the business. theres no way kojima will give someone an idea and just sit back and take the chance of them ruining his vision of what its supposed to be so if they come up with the idea on their own then he is safe.

I think what he means is that he has ideas, but wants to let his team think up concepts for themselves.

It seems like the team doesn't know what Kojima's ideas are, but if they do guess one of them, the idea will be squashed.

This might mean MGS 5 could be a experimental project for his team so he knows the MGS series will be in good hands with or without him in the future.

Look, Kojima is relatively close to an artist in the videogame world. As an artist (an especially ambitious one) and a perfectionist, to come up with an idea and let somebody else handle it wont cut it. He has been largely entrenched in MGS for years with the exception of games like Z.O.E. I dont know what is so hard to grasp. Sure WE can never get enough MGS but as an artist, Kojima might want to expand into new territory - not get in a rut. Or perhaps he just needs a break (as most people want and do).

I would love to see his genius utilized in a new vision.

You really bring up a great point here, He has been in a rut, for years now, even though it's been a great rut, and I would think it could be a break he needs and wants. If these younger upstarts want to carry on his vision of MGS with his blessing I think they should go for it, but use fresh Ideas and settings.

I want Sunny as the new character.

With the lack of great female lead characters MGS could really start something great here.

When was the last time you had a really awesome war game where a female was the lead character?

Whatever happens I just hope that Kojima doesn't end up doing everything with the next Metal Gear game. It's clear that he's burnt out with the series. If he keeps having to do the same series he'll probably end up leaving the video game industry. To carry on the artist analogy, it's like asking an artist to paint slight variations of a popular painting over and over, imagine how much great art we would be missing.

Kojima is an artist, let him write to his heart's content. BUT, he must not keep his ideas inside, or like ghosts they'll haunt his mind, if he thinks of other ideas, let him make them, there's no need to presure him to juice out MGS until he's empty. If he has other ideas for MGS, let him make them too, he shouldn't feel presured to stop it, as long as he writes what he likes to write, it'll come out great, and I'm sure we'll love him still.
