Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Headed To The Big Screen?
It's not the greatest game of the generation, but Star Wars: The Force Unleashed should probably satisfy all you LucasArts fanatics out there. And it'll be even better news if the man himself decides to make a new Star Wars movie based on the game...right?
According to GameSpot, LucasArts lead designer Hayden Blackman spoke to LAT blogger Geoff Boucher about his "daydream" of seeing The Force Unleashed on the big screen.
"Oh, that would be incredible. And it's not impossible. Never say never. George [Lucas] has looked to tell new Star Wars stories through the games and with the entire Star Wars Expanded Universe, and then he has also shown a willingness to let the characters come into the films. Look at Aayla Secura, a creation in the [Dark Horse] comic books who became part of the theatrical films."
Perhaps surprisingly, Boucher agreed that a feature film adaptation isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility, especially considering the fact that Lucas himself is pleased with The Force Unleashed. And if big George is happy, maybe he'll want to bring the cinematic story found in that game to an even bigger audience. Isn't Lucas all about "big?" Boucher had this to say on the subject:
"Lucas is clearly pleased with this new entry to the broader Star Wars story, and I would not be surprised for a moment to see it on a theater marquee at a CG-animated project in the next few years, especially with the intensifying Hollywood interest in video games and toys as film properties."
So, what do you think? Would this game make for a good movie? And don't you think that, despite the horrid tradition of games turned into films, Lucas would be just the guy to make it work? Hmm...
