Suggestions To Keep Wipeout HD From Crashing On Your PS3
There's no question that Wipeout HD is one of the best titles of the year, and certainly one of the best downloadable games in history (it's a short history, but nevertheless...). But upon launch, many Euro gamers complained of frequent crashing and freezing issues, which is understandably annoying. We haven't encountered any problems and this may only be limited to Europe, but either way, there are a few helpful suggestions out there.
For example, you may want to visit PS3 Vault; there's a step-by-step guide that may get Wipeout HD to play without negatively affecting your console. We have heard from numerous sources that the root cause of any crashes may be directly linked to the #1 step on that list: the Buddy list. It seems if you have over 50 Friends on the list, the game is much more prone to such technical issues. Other sources claim the problem may center on the downloading of the two files necessary to play; if it doesn't work, erase the files and download them in a different order. If you do this, you shouldn't have to re-purchase the game, as a list of your recent purchases will pop up on the PlayStation Store, and you can simply hit "Download" again. Other possibilities include disabling the Information Bar, the Screen Saver, and turning the main power to the system off after downloading and installing the game. Good luck to all who are experiencing unfortunate issues.
You can expect our review to go up soon, and you can bet we're mostly happy with Sony Liverpool's effort. Really, there's no better way to spend $20 in the video game world.

The issue revolves around your friends list - if you have 50 or more friends then Wipeout will crash when you attempt to move from one menu to another. Dont worry - this is not an issue with the PlayStation Network! It will likely require a minor software update.
The Gaming Team and Studio Liverpool have been notified, and are working very hard to bring you such an update.
In the mean time, there are some work-arounds I'd like to confirm for you:
Firstly, you can play the game with no problems offline. To do this, you can either disconnect your console from the internet, or neglect to sign-in when you start up your PS3.
Second, if you do wish to play online and are having these issues - try creating an alternative account. Be sure to keep that account's friends list under 50 though.
Finally, you can reduce the number of friends you have to below 50.
My personal recommendation is that you create an alternate account, and let your buddies know your new PSN via the Wipeout forum. I wouldn't want you all to go deleting your buddies!!!! I will set up a thread for this if you like - let me know here.
Once again, we're working solidly to get this sorted!!! I'll keep you updated - thanks to you all for being so patient.

anyway, the game has been nothing but perfect (touch wood).
but had some serious matches with BB and Zap, lol.. amazing, just an amazing game.
im not saying its a system seller, but lets face it, bloody good reason to buy a PS3 when you have games like that at £11.99 and you dont even have to leave the house to buy it!

Aside from the XMB issue I've noticed, I played any games with BlinkBoy and Dillon, perfectly smooth!
