Rumor: Uncharted 2 In Development

Quick Update: Apparently, the details from PSM3 come from Naughty Dog co-vice-president Christophe Balestra, who did indeed confirm the team is currently working on the sequel. Yay!

Original Story:

Last year, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune became one of the best PlayStation 3 games available, and ever since, fans have been hoping for news of a sequel. We've already heard that Naughty Dog should be planning to do one, but has development already begun on Uncharted 2? After all this time, we'd like to think so, and a few unconfirmed whispers are starting to indicate that Naughty Dog is working hard behind the scenes...

First of all, we have heard from a semi-reliable source that Naughty Dog may decide to unveil this sequel at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time. You may remember the rumor that says Sony will announce a "super-sexy secret game" at TGS, and while popular opinion centers on Team ICO's project, let's not forget Naughty Dog. Secondly, information from the latest PSM3 magazine has started to sneak online and while we don't have any direct quotes are scans just yet, we think the info is probably true. Basically, it says a sequel to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is currently in development and we may see the first images towards the end of 2008 or at the start of 2009. We know how many of you out there enjoyed the original - it was the co-winner of last year's Game of the Year award at PSXE - and a sequel would be fantastic news. After all, we're talking about another exclusive title that could become a major franchise for the PS3, and that's always newsworthy.

So right about now, we're going to be looking high and low for any new details on this sequel. If Naughty Dog is working on it, we'd like to think we'll get a hint of that process at TGS. Cross your fingers!

Does anybody know whether Naughty Dog have multiple development teams? I was wondering if they're also working on another Jak game currently or if that has been sidelined for an Uncharted sequel. Having both games revealed as planned for release next year would be a huge boost for the PS3 for me personally.

I hope the 2nd uncharted can support 1080p.The first one looked so real despite only being 720p that if the 2nd was 1080p then it may look as real as gran turismo 5!!!

1080p, even for simply rendered games, is a lot of data. Because of that, we aren't likely to see a lot of 1080p tltles until next generation. But I have no doubt uncharted 2 will of the best looking titles, despite being in mere 720p.

that is just wrong. the ps4 is not coming for a long time and by then UHD tvs would be out and sony will probably move forward than stick to 1080p.

1080p TV's have been around for sometime now, but how many natively rendered 1080p games (not to be mistaken with 1080i) are there, today? Besides WipeoutHD, and GTPrologue, I can't think of another game on the PS3 or the 360. Even Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which was touted at 1080p, was actually rendered at slightly lower and unique resolution (better than 1080i and 720p but not 1080p).

And ofcourse I'm not saying there will be no 1080p games this generation. I'm just stating the obvious, that they are not in abundance, nor will we see them in abundance, this generation. Now whether, 1080p is seen in the next-generation or skipped entirely, is another question. But for now 1080i, and 720p is the common standard.

I have heard that they wont make anything greater than 1080p for a while. it took 30 years to get where we are now. Sony, however, has OLED tvs now which, while they aren't really big, boast better pictures than any HD tv on the market. They're expensive as hell, though.

Naughty dog were great doing The Crash Bandicoot games (do they still do them ?) plus will the new Crash be on the PS3 and not just the 360 like Crash Of The Titans was ? Anyway Drakes 2 should be just as good if not better, cant wait for that one. *yet another game to add to the ever growing list* lol

Nah they never owned the Crash series sadly...
They were making the games for Universal Studios.

The whole idea of Crash was Naughty Dog's, but the game was under license to Universal...

Anyway I hope they either bring back the Jak series or come up with another fun Crash-like game in the future, it'd be sweet.

Naghty Dog are still my favourite deveolpers. I still hope to get a job working with them someday.Crash was unreal until it got to Ps2..also when Naughty Dog stopped developing it!Their games are just so much fun for people of all ages...my grandad had a go at jak and daxter..hilarious!!but he loved it!!!

Naughty dog is my favorite developer, because they know how to actually make a decent game unlike some people *cough EA cough* Naughty dog has always satisfied me with very fun games like crash, and Jak and daxter. Since they are making a new Uncharted I will have to get the first one to understand the second one.

The way I see it, the games main theme is "Uncharted", so in theory we may be looking at a completely different adventure, with completely differrent characters.
