EA's Redwood Shores Dead Space Team Seeking New Name
October has more big releases than any other month in 2008, and EA's survival/horror creep-fest, Dead Space, is most certainly one of them. There's a great deal of anticipation for what should be an intense and atmospheric title, and the team responsible - part of the EA Redwood Shores studio - is thinking of a new name for itself.
Or, to be more specific, a name. For now, they're just the people in the studio that made Dead Space, but they want to distinguish themselves for future reference. Variety's The Cut Scene interviewed Redwood Shores' boss Glenn Schofield, and he talked about how hard the team was working to solidify the team's position as "a place known for creativity, originality, and high quality third-person action/adventure titles." Apparently, the new name for the Dead Space group is currently going through legal...but we have no idea what it's gonna be. This probably means we'll see more IPs from the team that are in that genre, and that may or may not include a sequel to the upcoming sci-fi survival/horror game. But hey, it's about time a studio at EA had a catchy name; "Electronic Arts" is pretty darn boring to begin with, and with so many internal development studios under the EA umbrella, things can get a bit confusing.
And if this Redwood Shores team delivers a great game in Dead Space, they'll want to be easily recognized as the group responsible for a good production. Then again, if the game flops, maybe it's best to pass on the name idea.
