New Exclusive PS3 RPG Discovered

For some time now, RPG fans have been searching high and low for RPGs for their PlayStation 3. You've seen them; they wander about the game store, dazed and confused, staring idly at a shelf full of next-gen titles and frowning. They're all thinking, "are they ever going to make an RPG or do I just have to wait for Final Fantasy XIII?"

Well, we've got some good news for you. Eternal Sonata releases this month, White Knight Chronicles shouldn't be too far off (holds a December release date in Japan), and now, a brand new exclusive PS3 RPG has been discovered: according to European site PS3-Sense citing the latest edition of Famitsu, From Software and SCEE are preparing Demon's Souls, and if you like, you can check out the leaked magazine scans for the game. As you might expect, details are thin so far, but we do have a few interesting tidbits of information: you'll be able to create and customize your own hero, the enemies are gigantic in size and will be able to morph into different forms, the player will have lots of freedom throughout the adventure, and perhaps best of all, it'll be playable at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks. None of this makes Demon's Souls sound like a traditional JRPG, but then again, we're pretty sure the "traditional" turn-based RPG is now completely dead. So it's not exactly surprising.

Oh, and if you're not familiar with From Software, they're responsible for the Armored Core and Tenchu series, Lost Kingdoms, and Otagi. No big RPGs on their list, but we're hoping they can provide us with an excellent role-playing experience. After all, this is a PS3 exclusive.

The link isn't working for me, but then again it's probably my internet.

I just hope this trend begins right now, with more and more exclusive/multi RPG's to come.

It's your Internet. ;) Only shows the magazine scan in Japanese, though...you're not missing much.

Page is bad, Ben. It doesn't load. Can you just get the screen shots on PSX website?

Btw, I hope they freaking make a good RPG. Armored Core got some awful bad scoring.

Works fine for me, and there's really only a scan. Here's a link-

The link there is the same as here, but maybe it'll work better for you.

Yes!
'Bout time Sony took the lead in making more rpgs again.

Remeber the great ps1 days when Sony had Legend of Legai, Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms(I think), and some others 1st or 2nd party rpgs.

Man in one of the scans you can see a big-ass flying monster....

This is really reminding me of shadow of Colossus!

Anyway can't wait, being able to create your own character sounds tasty. Just hope the game has a nice flow(wither with story or really good gameplay mechanics)

Tramp, I do believe that England gets it the 24th.

As for Demon's Souls, I eagerly await further information on this. I really hope it turns out to be a nice RPG.

RPG awesomeness is on the way, but the wait is interminable. The fact that it'll be playable at TGS is a good sign, since so many announced RPGs turn out to be little more than ideas which are later abandoned. Keep you're eyes peeled gents, I think we are witnessing the demise of SquareEnix, and other Devs more in touch with you and me smell blood in the water.

K I'm super happy for a new exclusive PS3 RPG... OMG RPG

But I'm also super worried... demon souls is a very cheesy name that I except a 12 year old punk to name himself online. However, I will try to push this thought aside and hope for the best.

it may just be the japanese name for the game. Im sure they'd change it if it gets released in the states.

I want to see some stuff on this game. I hope these guys can do as good a job as they did with the Armored Core series, but I guess only time will tell. TGS just got a little bit more exciting now!

Don't worry Aceman, From Soft is working with SCEE, which means it can't go to the Crapbox PleaseFixMe.

What? Traditional turn based are dead??? What makes you say this anyway? There are still games coming out with a turn-based gameplay. Though they are decreasing in numbers. So dying maybe a more appropriate word. Definitely not dead though.
