Rumor Busted: Open Home Beta Not Coming With Update 2.5
Last month, PlayStation Home Community Manager "TedtheDog" made some statements in the U.S Home Beta forums that got everyone talking. It started when someone asked about a particular bug found during testing, and he replied that firmware update 2.5 would fix the bug.
It's what he said after this that got the rumors started. He said that update 2.5 would arrive this month ("later October is my guess," he stated), and at about the same time, Home version 1.0 would also become available. The media put two and two together and came up with the theory that the long-awaited open Home beta would launch along with update 2.5 and version 1.0 (kinda makes sense), but now, Ted has clarified the situation. He went on the official European PlayStation Home forums and said- "Open beta will be later this year after 2.5 is released. Sorry about that, I should know better than to say anything that could be misconstrued like that on such an important subject." Eh, it's probably our fault, Ted. Whenever we hear anything that can be interpreted as good news in regards to Home, we get a little antsy. Sometimes, we just want to make something out of nothing...we journalists are guilty of that from time to time.
Anyway, Home is still scheduled to come to your PS3 later this fall, and probably just in time for the holiday rush. As soon as we can pin down an actual release date, we'll be sure to let you know.

Am I the only one who stays away from Betas like like the hottie with VD? I always have a gut feeling Im gonna get turned off by a stripped down version of any game. Thats why I try not to play demos. But then again...It does cost $60 to take a leap of faith on a game...hmmm...

I know which one I would rather have.
They will release it once they feel it is right. It is just a matter of patience and besides with all the games coming out on the horizon we all will have loads of things to occupy our time until it is released.

However after I entered all the areas, downloading all of the files for each area, and got around to e-meeting people, it was actually kinda fun.
I played a game of pool (and actually ran the table in my second game), hooked up with a couple of folks to play some bowling (which was glitchy) while enjoying pretty good chat convos during the game.
From a social stand point I can see the value of the product. There was no shooting, stabbing, or pillaging, but the nice people I met definetly made the experience.
On the technical side of things, it really requires a keyboard at this point. USB mics are hit or miss and bluetooth mics work to hear others, but I couldn't manage to get mine to relay what I was saying. Home simply does not work if you don't have a keyboard.
