160GB PlayStation 3 Uncharted Bundle Launches On November 30

We heard about it at E3, but we figured you'd want the finalized details as we head into the holiday season.

One of the best bundle packages on store shelves this fall will be the 160GB PlayStation 3 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle. It features the new PS3 with the massive hard drive, a Dual Shock 3 controller, one of 2007's best titles, and as another little bonus, a PSN voucher for PAIN. At the time of its announcement, we didn't have an exact price and release date, but now we do: according to Punch Jump, the package will retail for $499.99 and go on sale on November 30, just about the time consumers are starting to go nuts. Said president and CEO of SCEA, Jack Tretton:

"As Playstation Network continues to evolve with our recently launched video delivery service and more exclusive games, PS3 owners are demanding more storage capacity. Consumers also are utilizing PS3 as an entertainment hub for their digital media, placing content such as their entire music collection on the hard drive. The 160GB PS3 system addresses this growing consumer demand in a compelling bundle that delivers significant value."

If it seems pricey, remember this- when the PS3 first launched with a 60GB hard drive (and none of the updates we have today, like a vastly enhanced PlayStation Store and Network) and very few games to choose from, it cost $599. Sure, it had backwards compatibility, but that's not as big a feature these days. Now, you get a 160GB HDD, a Game of the Year nominee, one of the new Dual Shock 3 controllers, and a little PSN gift voucher, all for $100 less. Just to put things in perspective for ya...that $600 bare-bones PS3 price tag was less than two years ago.

I still don't get why they don't make more bundles to choose from. In addition to this bundle, release one LBP bundle, one MGS4 bundle, and one GT5 bundle. Give the people choices and the people will be happy, just like with abortions. ;)

I'm still very happy that I bought my PS3 right at launch, the backwards compatibility has given me much joy and is for me worth the extra 100 bucks. As for the bigger HDD, I might switch mine in the future if I feel like I don't have enough space left. From what I've heard it's a pretty easy thing to do.

I wouldn't call 160gb massive storage, it's so 2006 standard, but sony wants to limit their cost on their products as much as they can. Depends what you use the PS3 for I guess.
This is for people who don't want to upgrade their PS3 them self, but you do get the console and Uncharted for half the price I paid for my bare-bone PS3 60gb.

It's massive. No other console comes with more hard-drive space, nor has any console ever come with more hard drive space.

PCs and upgrades consumers purchase are kinda irrelevant.

Man, now I wish I wasn't an early adopter...

I got the Original 60GB for $660 CAD ( 5% taxes). Whereas the exchange rae for canada and US is pretty much the same right now...

I should probably save up for another one and give my old one to my brothers

Hey, maybe next year they'll have a 250GB version?

You can get a 250GB hard drive for under $100, and it is easy to install. There is no need to get a new system. Plus backwards compatibility is awesome...if you still play ps2 games.

The original 60gb. is worth serious cash now. If you ever plan to sell it then don't get talked down by anyone looking for a deal. Either keep it and expand the hdd or sell it for at least $600 cash.

A true gamer is an early adopter,maybe casual gamers are late-adopters,no matter how much ps3 was costin around launch,i hussled hard,sold ma big n slim ps2's,sold all ma 40 games along,reduced ma night-outs n did errthan possible to get dat money, cause i knew ps3 was close n i wanted it,dat makes me a true-gamer.

I adore early-adopters it shows how bad they want sumn.

I personally think the bundle is worth the money, but here is the problem. The "common" buyer is attracted by prices. For the sake of sales, I think SONY is better off by charging less without a bundle.

I thought Sony was working on a "blu-ray-less" PS3 for under $200. what happened to that idea? I wish the new 160gb. had backwards compatibility w/ ps2 games not to mention the memory card slots and 4 USB imputs like what the original 60/80 gb. models had.

I got the old 80gig from last year, so I'm happy enough with that. Am definitely buying a much bigger hdd tho this year. An 80gig PS3 actually comes to about 74 gigs, I think, and I already used about 50 (don't know how but I did lol). So if I plan on keeping this puppy for 10 years, I think I might just go all out and get the 300gig hdd. And it's only about 110$ might I add. =)

I got the original bare bones for 800 USD at launch. I completely emptied my bank account at the time...cause they made you buy two games with it which brought it up to 720 then add tax for all three items...I still think it was worth it though...especially cause I have a pretty decent PS2 library.

I got my 60gig brand new for 300, by buying it used from someone with product-replacement plan on it (so I swapped it in for brand new one). I never buy things at launch, especially since the great games don't come out until much later.

btw if you have PSN videos, like the Xam'd animes. its not transferrable to the new HDD.
and the only way to re-download it is by calling Sony.

I got the 80gig and I love my black beast. Unfortunately I'm soon going to have to take my music library and most of my video's off of the HDD to make room for more mandatory installs. I don't wanna upgrade just yet, can't be losing my savegames either right now in a drive swap. I feel bad for driveless xbots -just pitiful really.

They really shouldn't of ditched full backwards compatibility. They should of put it on this model since this is more expensive. All this has is just a bigger HDD. It would of been better if something else was added.

Don't worry, guy. You're not missing much. And if you have to play your old classics, getting a ps1 or a ps2 is not that hard. Even on my 60gigger, with the ps2 chipset in it, it's not perfectly backward compatible. I specifically got a 60 gigger to play my old classics like Wipeout xl for the ps1, and dmc3se for ps2. Although I had no problems playing my ps2 games, my scratchless wipeout xl skips on music, and music was a big part of that game.

ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But yeah, that's TOTALLY awesome and all, but not very smart to bundle it with a game that's been out for a while..... You know what would have been ABSOLUTELY incredible? If they Bundled it with "Pure." That game looks so sweet.....

Dude, Uncharted is incredible. Even after playing through it on all difficulty levels a year or so back, the other day I was in a gamestop marveling at how beautiful a game was, just to notice it was only Uncharted.

Console bundling isn't a bad idea but if you can put a $60 pack in game with the console, why not deduct that cost from the $499 price and sell it for $439 ! I've never been a fan of bundles as it drives up the price of game consoles. If I want MGS or Unchartered, I'd buy them separately !

I'd rather have BC than a pack in game !

Games cost us 60 bucks, but their only a few bucks to manufacture. So selling it at 439 would cut into their profits more so.
