RE5 Leaves The Typewriter Behind
Sometimes, it's hard to say goodbye to an old friend...regardless of how irrational the situation may be. Hey, for hardcore Resident Evil fans, the typewriter was a very dear friend!
But alas, it's the 21st century and a new generation in the gaming industry, so according to 1Up, Capcom has decided to move past the old-fashioned way of saving your game in the RE series. RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi said he "really likes the typewriters," but there are plenty of gamers these days who probably wouldn't be a big fan of such an archaic way of saving. No, the developers will be using a more modern approach, as RE5 will boast "a combination of checkpoints and chapters," which certainly sounds more reasonable and accessible. Those intimately familiar with any previous installments in the long-running franchise will remember those typewriters; backtracking to save before a particularly tough area, desperately limping towards that beckoning typewriter when seriously wounded, etc. And hey, remember the Item Boxes that typically came with the typewriters? Yeah, those might be gone, too.
We're sure the die-hard fans will frown on this decision, but in all honesty, it needed to be done. We're looking forward to Resident Evil 5, of course, but we have to admit that we weren't looking forward to those typewriters again. Still, there's something to be said for tradition.
