RE5 To Boast Revamped Controls
No one denies that the long-running and esteemed Resident Evil franchise was growing a bit stale in the late PS1/early PS2 era, but thanks to the fourth iteration, the franchise regained any lost luster. RE4 was awesome, plain and simple.
But one of the biggest reasons for this newfound awesomeness was the overhauled control scheme. It was an excellent decision by Capcom, even though we know how difficult it can be to leave tradition behind in this increasingly nostalgic industry. Instead of this archaic "first face the direction you wish to move, then move" format, the action controls were more fluid in RE4; more action-oriented from a third-person point of view. And now, according to GamePlayer, the Australian Official PlayStation Magazine reports that Resident Evil 5 will feature yet another control revamp. In fact, it's supposed to be entirely new from top to bottom; the new system will boast a Gears of War-type format "that enables strafing and evasive maneuvers such as rolls." This should speed up a notoriously slow game (even though the fans probably don't like that idea), and it'll be interesting to learn more about this restructured control scheme.
If you have the means, you might want to find a way to get your hands on this Aussie OPM. It'll release tomorrow and it features a full five-page RE5 feature complete with an interview with the game's producer, Jun Takeuchi. If not, we'll try to locate added details from our end.
