White Knight Chronicles: 100 Hours Of Story, PSN Co-Op

Even though Final Fantasy XIII will be a true blockbuster in every sense of the word, most RPG fans don't want to wait quite that long. Hence, they're turning their attention to other titles that are closer on the calendar; the biggest of which is Level 5's White Knight Chronicles.

We've been keeping close track of this game's developments over the past few months, and we'd like to think we've uncovered as many new details as possible. The game does have a solid Japanese release date of December 25, and we're waiting for U.S. launch information, but in the meantime, PSBeyond has stumbled across some new stuff. Japanese gaming site Game-Star! has listed several new interesting tidbits: first of all, the native 1080p high-definition resolution is confirmed again, which is great news as far as we're concerned. Also, in terms of the gameplay, there's a "dynamic battle system" that will allow you to switch between the regular characters and thee "colossal white knight" form whenever you wish. We haven't seen or heard much about this Transformers-like morphing in WKC, but we're certainly intrigued. And remember, even though the game isn't traditionally turn-based, we've heard it will be a hybrid type; a blend of turn-based and real-time fighting.

Lastly, there are two new pieces of information that jack the game's longevity through the roof: the story campaign alone could last over 100 hours, and Level 5 will provide co-op gameplay over the PlayStation Network! These days, when a game lasts 20 or 30 hours and that's considered "long," RPG fans continue to wait for a ridiculously long and in-depth JRPG. Well, White Knight Chronicles should fit the bill quite nicely.

And what loyalty has SqueEnix shown to its loyal Playstation fans, specifically those who don't own a 360? Where are the exclusives besides vXIII. Square is giving the 360 more timed exclusives and exclusives and withholding finished PS3 games here in the U.S. until the 360 version is finished. I'm glad I have a 360 so I can play all of SqueEnix's games, but where is its loyalty to the "horse that brung it" to the company it is today.

"Tokyo time tomorrow, this year's TGS kicks off. Microsoft is already hyping its close proximity to the Square Enix booth as a "cooperative" effort for both companies. Xbox Japan marketing exec Jyoji Sakaguchi explains the game plan:
We're going to take advantage of our booths being side-by-side, because both the Square Enix and Microsoft booths are working in tandem. This time around, we're putting the greatest importance in getting the largest number of visitors to play our games. At the Microsoft and the Square Enix booths, we're holding a lottery. The winner gets to go to the Square Enix booth and play... You'll have to wait to that day to see what happens. (laughs)
He's not kidding about getting a large number of visitors to play Xbox 360 games. Microsoft is rolling out over 140 demo kiosks at TGS."

See what I mean. Sony should either purchase more shares in SqueEnix or sell of its existing shares because owning part of the company isn't getting them anything anymore.

Orvisman,u right Square have not been sooo loyal to loyal ps fans, but at least ps3 is the lead platform for xiii n versusxiii is also an exclusive, the other titles they Square, did for 360 can't be compared to FF,i don't really even know bout those titles, square know FF will continue to be they biggest franchise n have dedicated more time for xiii n versusxiii.

They still down for ps3, dat explains the vsxiii exclusive.Mind u level 5 could do the same if WKC is a huge success, they both devs in the games industry lookin to make a whole heap ah money outta they game bidness.

........Yep.....Yep my heart officially stoped. At first this game didnt have too much of my attention but now....now this is at the top of my list(Right next to Fallout,R2,and Socom!!!).Also if the Campaign can take 100 hours to complete I hope it dosent get repedative. Also they better not skimp out on the side quests also.If its possible we could be looking at a 110-120 hour game here...Makes my mouth water.

Well, just regular co-op is done offline. You know, like the old split-screen, buddy-sitting-next-to-you-playing-on-the-same-TV thing. Except split-screen is basically dead; I'm sure this co-op will be modern.

Co-op online is just what it sounds like, really.

AAAAHHHH!! the suspense is killing me. Long and epic RPGs, as Agent Smith would say, "Weeee've missed you." I'll still be picking up Eternal Sonata to occupy my time, but this bad boy looks like its got balls. Now we just have to hunker down, the waiting is the hardest part. Nope, can't wait, GIMME GIMME.

PSN co-op sounds alright.

I must admit though, having co-op in the Tales series (especially the gamecube game) was absolutely and amazingly FUN.

The first time I had ever done that on an RPG and even though I didn't control a huge portion of it, I still enjoyed myself.

Plus later on I got to go through the entire game by myself.

"The newest issue of Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation has new info about how online works for PS3 exclusive White Knight Chronicles. The Level 5 developed title features a story mode that can "seamlessly" change into online play. Once connected, there's a meeting place that can accommodate up to 16 players. From that, players break off into parties of four for quests."

If what square-enix says is true about FFXIII revolutionizing RPGs like FFVII did then white knight chronicles will barely compare. I love Level 5 though and this game is going to rock. The RPGs are comin, time to cancel gamefly.
