PS3 Owners Going Home On 10/24?

As of yet, Sony hasn't released an official launch date for PlayStation Home; all we know is that it should arrive some time "this fall." Earlier rumors that the open beta would come right along with the new closed Home beta update - 1.00 - proved false. But perhaps now we have a little clue...

Variety's Ben Fritz got a chance to sample Home with SCEA director Jack Buser, and evidently, he came away mostly impressed with the experience. However, as we know many of our readers are beta testers, we won't get into specifics (if you like, you can read the entire article over at the Cut-Scene blog). But here's the interesting bit: when they wandered around Home, the code number to get into "personal space" apartments was "1024." ...we assume we don't have to spell this out for our intelligent readership, but we'll explain for the less savvy. We know the open Home beta is set for "fall," and "1024" can be 10/24, which is October 24. This coincides with some inside rumors we've heard in the past few months that say Home will launch some time in October, so it's certainly feasible. We're going to contact the SCEA Home team to see if we can get a clarification on this issue, and we don't want the standard, "we don't comment on rumor and speculation" reply. It's only a few weeks off; you guys can tell us whether or not the guess is accurate. C'mon, just a simple yes or no... Anyway, we'll try.

Along with the big-time exclusives like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, PlayStation Home ought to be a major selling point for the PS3 this holiday season. And given the importance of online functionality for consoles in this generation, the sooner we go Home, the better.

hmm.. maybe.... 2.5 is coming before socom.... so it would go with the 2.5 thing, even though it was debunked..

Sounds pretty plausible. I keep hearing that Home is suppose to come out within the same week as LBP so there seems to be a pretty decent chance. I suppose we can only hope.

There's been a lot of proposed reasons for that number. It's like a numerologists convention on some boards at the moment.

im not saying dont get excieted about HOME guys.. it is brilliant, just dont expect it to make the tea!

its a meeting place and somewhere to hang out and start off multiplayer games.

theres a lot of hype around HOME, and trust me..its great. but it does exactly what Sony have said all along that it does.. nothing else.

I just hope the hype of HOME isnt too great and will spoil the experience for some people expecting more.

What do you mean nothing else? You can play Chess, Pool, Bowling and Arcade Games in Home. You can deck out your appartment and your character. You can see Movie trailers and go shopping......stop me when there is nothing else....

Sounds as good as any other theory. Let's hope Ben cracked the DaVinci code on this one.

So it sounds more like they have tried to make it into something like Second Life or something else. Ok playing the arcade games maybe fun but chess and bowls ? hahaha.
Who cares about decorating a house ? while im decoarating my house for people to go oooooooohhhh and aahhhhhhhhhhh I could be playing my games lol I hope it does go well but there are some people out there who it wont appeal to. Maybe I'll be the only one not to have a decorated home lol

1024 is also the most common computer-geek number because it's the number of bytes in a kilobyte, so don't read too much into it. It would be nice, but it's a Friday and who would release Home on a Friday?

Why would friday be illogical? It'd be a dl so people can get it as soon as they get home... from work or school and have all weekend to jump in.

That'd be a cool date to release it on, 10/24/08... 1024 is obviously a geeky number, sure, but so is 8! :D I also happened to get my driver's license on that date in '05.

"1024 is also the most common computer-geek number because it's the number of bytes in a kilobyte" Uh, not exactly. 1024 is 2^10 which IS the number of bytes in a kilobyte but also relates to about a million other compuer science units and concepts.
