Dead Space: "World's Scariest Game"

Wait...is Dead Space just really good, or is this a game that could redefine an entire genre and become one of the best titles of the new generation? Is it that good?

Everyone seems to think it is. Yet another early review has popped up; it's from the latest edition of PSW magazine, which goes on sale tomorrow. According to CVG, PSW calls Dead Space the "world's scariest game," and it's now "the new benchmark to beat in survival/horror that pushes the genre to twisted new heights and into the outer limits of space itself." They conclude by giving it a 9/10 (that's the third 9/10 we've seen, by the way), and we have to say, we're thoroughly psyched for this one. Capcom is going to have their hands full trying to compete, it seems, even though we have every confidence that Resident Evil 5 will be fantastic. Here's more from the article:

"This is bold, bleak gaming from the haunting opening credits to the pulse pounding finish. Stunningly detailed, expertly paced and lavishly slaved over by Glen Schofield and his crew at EA Redwood, Dead Space should be classed as one of the finest looking and intelligently crafted games in many a moon."

Will we have equally high praise for Dead Space? Well, you'll just have to stay tuned to find out. This could very well be one of EA's best titles, and that's a good sign for the publisher. If you like being creeped out, it seems they've got you covered...

Hype...

I dont bank on hype. That's why I seldom preorder.

Until a bunch of reviews start coming out, I remain skeptical.

While this game has certainly received some media coverage, I would'nt say it has been hyped. For a while, I think, everyone has been mildy curious about it at best, in light of all the sure-hitters (R2,Gears2,RE5) being shown to us. The fact that this game being multiplatform, and the the first reviews are from ps exclusive magazines, indicates to me that this game has to have some merit.

I have been waiting for this game for a long time.I truly hope its worth it,I think it shows EA is a truly trying to please gamers instead of just increasing their revenue. At least I hope they are.

Aliens have always been superstitions just like ghosts,so those don't scare me but humans infected with some virus acting like monsters n killers is a real possibility,n considering 5,999,999,999 more are around u in reality who could be infected by some scientist-went-wrong-on-his-lab-test-solution n infect humans to behave like killers..........doesn't dat scare u.
Simply put, Resident Evil will still continue to be the "World's Scariest Game"

The monsters in Dead Space were the people on the ship. They are not aliens. They keep refering to the monsters as people I knew and used to work with but have become horribly disfiquired and infected by something.

@ElleJuss u ever seen an Alien b4? Aliens might exist on the other planets but the astronauts fail to realise human brain together with human eyes can't understand therefore see alien anatomy likewise aliens also don't see us or woulda attacked us long ago, maybe they do,they may be responsible for dat big rock about to smash the earth sometime ago...lol

BUT u seen a rabies infected human behavin like a dog,zombies are more possible,even highy-addicted crack-heads behave like'em...u should be scared.....lol :D

I know what you mean, Ghana Bwai. Some dude acting kind of strange, and you don't know what's up, is less likely to break your suspension of disbelief, and more likely to fool your senses, than some ish with 20 arms 13 heads, reminding you of something out of Power Rangers episode.

But at the same time, there are really two kinds of fears: the mental one, and the instinctual one. The mental one relates to what you don't know, like possiblity of failure, or dashing of hopes, or an unlikely realization ending with disgust or horror. The instinctual one, has nothing to do with conscious thought, and not even much at all with the object of fear (could be a cat, or a glass falling), but has to do with your fight-or-flight response, like when you get startled, or surprised. This game maybe capable of the latter.

My girlfriend would hate me if I started playing this game...maybe that wouldn't be too bad.

I'll wait for the review then put it on the list.

Uh, Ben, AcEman seems to be advertising some nonsense on all the boards, better get on his case. Edit: nevermind, looks like you got it.

Back on topic, this is looking more and more like a must buy, as a horror writer I love it when something can really creep me out, and it's been awhile since that's happened. God knows hollywood movies have forgotten how to do it, my PS3 library requires a game of this type.

Pre-ordered this one a long time ago. The brutality and sheer terror seem to make for a solid experience. Looks great, but looks aren't everything. I have learned that a lot with games this year haze haha. This game seems to be a first day purchase if you like horror. Those "Necromorphs" look like they don't take prisoners! 9/10 has got to mean something. And Ghana the previous Resident Evils were the scary ones.

This game has continued to impress me since I 1st heard about it last year. Since then, I've been trying to find some fault in it since EA is publishing it. EA has built a rep similar to M$: Buy up everything, disrespect ur fans and competition. But I cannot find ANYthing wrong w/ this title. All aspects of the title seem strong. Fresh story, setting, gameplay
