Rumor: Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope Confirmed For PS3

Less than a day after we go on an anti-Square-Enix rant, wondering specifically what logical reason there is behind only bringing Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope to the Xbox 360...and bam, the rumor shows up that gets us all excited: according to translated information from gaming site Gamekyo, Square-Enix has now confirmed that SO4 is also coming to the PlayStation 3. The game was revealed way back in February for the Xbox 360, to be released in all major territories, but PS3 owners were disappointed when Square-Enix didn't include their console in the announcement. This made little sense, as JRPGs sell best in Japan - where the 360 is essentially non-existent - and up until now, the popular Star Ocean franchise has only been on PlayStation platforms. We certainly don't mind if 360 owners around the world get a shot at the new game, but we could never figure out why PS3 owners wouldn't also get the anticipated title. Now, we may have to eat our own words...perhaps Square-Enix is just late to the PS3 party.

However, bear in mind that this is nothing more than an unconfirmed rumor; we're going to have to wait to get the official word from S-E on this one. But it's gonna spark plenty of conversation, now isn't it?

N$G.com says that the official Japanese site for Star Ocean IV is still listing it as a 360 exclusive.

Lets wait for an official statement

I knew there wasn't anything to be worried about lol. Even if it is just a rumor. Just like some other companies, they are just slow getting their heads around the technology. Everybody has said it's not an easy system to work with afterall. And as a sidenote about the comment above about listening to the fans, if they listened to the fans about every single thing then they never wouldve left Nintendo all those years ago. Remember how mad people got? And look at all the gaming goodness we would've missed :(

if they are just slow at the technology then why would they test themselves on their flagship game? after all ff13 is on the ps3 disk first before 360. i know they wanna push westward but just make more multi plat games thats all.

for who? JK, IMO Nintendo is now focused in casual gamers, so those franchises can't continue growing on nintendo platforms.

And MGS is a franchise born in the MSX not the Nes.

Cool. I've got no problem if SE decides to go multiplat. As long as they build the 360 and PS3 versions separately from the ground up, it's all good. Now if they could just release The Last Remnant for PS3 this November...

Square probably has been playing a safe ballfield.

Since the PS3 has had no definite success until just this year, unlike the Xbox 360, Square most likely has been holding off on its efforts until some sort of guarantee was revealed; that PS3 will not falter.

And since they are 99.99% sure of it's success, I'm positive that someone at Square said, "Hey guys, let's bring these games over to PS3 now that we know it's not going to fade into oblivion."

Look at it this way... PS3 is harder and more expensive to develop games for versus the Xbox 360... even if the game is just a port. So Square-Enix, in my humble little opinion, is just being smart and careful regarding their money.

Most of all, those crappy ass games that you hear about on the 360 (they are crappy, I'm expecting Last Hope to be like that too with it being on the 360 since the 360 is such a limited hardware/capacity base) are developed by other parties within Square-Enix and not the initial core team (quality team) whom are actually working on XIII and Versus. Square got different departments/firms ... or different teams I would say.

I griped about this plenty of times, as such I'll remain skeptical, it is certain that leaving most of Japan out of the SO4 experience (and American Sony fans in the process) makes absolutely no sense, but so does holding onto a complete FFXIII until its inferior twin brother comes sliding out the chute. (Grossness purposeful) SE is just acting erratic as hell. I hope it is true though, but we will get stuck waiting on another timed exclusive I'm sure. That's how M$ operates: toss cash, pretend Sony is actually getting the hand-me-downs, i.e. Last Remnant.

If my memory is correct wasn't Sony trying to work with nintendo and things didn't go right so Sony went solo and made the PS1?

I don't think so. Sony decided to enter the gaming market with PS1. SquareSoft at the time saw the PS1 as a huge leap into what can be accomplished on and so they went with PS1. But anyways, so far from what I've read Sony decided on its own.

I hate to inform all of you , but this is now a 3 console party, just zip it and get all the consoles. Instead of whining about not having an exclusive another platform has, just go get the other console, the change will do you good.
I have all 3 and guess what? I never miss anything. As a matter of fact I never even have to think about it because no matter what console anything comes out on, I'm covered. There. That was easy enough, you'll never have to miss anything again. And if you already have a PS3, for about the same price you get TWO consoles that have a whole lot of exclusives to boot between the two of them. As a PS3 owner (and lover) it's the one thing that really bothers me when I come to these all PS3 sites, and that's the sense of entitlement. My god, it's NOT all about the PS anymore, . . . it's a 3 console party, and the sooner you get use to it, the more fun you will have.

I've never played any of the Star Oceans, but from what I hear I've been missing out. I'd be super excited if it hit PS3 instead of just 360, although I have been thinking about getting an XBOX recently...

Actually started out on the SNES. but youve heard me ranting and raving about it for the past year or so, so you know how i felt about SO4 on the 3shitty. But what really gets me is FF13 on 360 it better not be the same as the 360, that would be a huuuuge waste of potential for extras in game. you know what i mean?

Atualllllyyy, sony WAS working with Nintendo back in the 90's in an attempt to create a multi-platform console, but nearing the end of closing the deal, Nintendo decided they did not like some of the control that would have been passed along to Sony with the contract and backed out, it was a pretty lengthy legal battle, but Nintendo won, Sony decided to venture into the console market anyway with the playstaion, which BTW, IF Nintendo had gone along with Sony, the Multi-platform console woulda been called....The Playstaion, Sony owned the rights to the name, they made the console a legal way to stick it to Nintendo. so yes Affliction17, u r correct :)

It was Nintendo's own fault that they went downhill after the Snes... Sony tried to make a CD driver for the Snes, but Nintendo didn't wanted it, so Sony made it's won console, the sucessful Playstation. I bet that, if Nintendo could change the past, they would had merged with Sony back them...
