New Castlevania Coming For PS3, 360
There hasn't been much in the way of earth-shattering announcements at TGS 2008, but we do have good news for old-school fans who appreciate the continuation of classic franchises.
According to UK site Dark Zero, Konami revealed at the show they plan to resurrect the long-running and critically acclaimed Castlevania franchise for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Apparently, they announced the game to the Japanese press and the project was referred to as, "Demon Castle Dracula," which is simply the Japanese name for "Castlevania." In 22 years, Konami has released 29 iterations of the name, and most gamers only have one problem with that: the later 3D installments weren't half as good as the amazing 2D entries, like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the PS1 and the trio of GBA titles that received excellent review scores. Personally, I want them to return to the 2D world, but if it's for the PS3 and 360, that probably won't happen...unless they decide to make it as a downloadable title for the Store and Marketplace. They could very easily produce an excellent two-dimensional adventure for a budget price, and it's something that would certainly appeal to long-time followers of the series.
There are no additional details at this time, although you can check out one blurry screenshot over at Dark Zero. Doesn't tell us much, but at this point, we're just happy to hear that another Castlevania is on the way.

Anyway, that screenshot in the link you posted is definitely in 3D and it looks like Alucard. Could be a pre-rendered cutscene in between some awesome 2D action. Haha, I remain doubtful.

I wish Castlevania return to 2D too, but it is a dilemma as I think--if it is 2D on a PS3, it probably wont be able to use much of the PS3 power, for I think the ps1 Symphony of the Night's screen quality is already among the best in 2D graphics, therefore, it will be a waste to use PS3 to play a 2D Castlevania. Long words short, if it is a new Castlevania on PS3 (not re-make of the past series), then the game will maximize the PS3's power when it is a 3D, but then again the problem becomes--how good it will be comparing to the 2D legendary series. The two PS2 games, Lament of Innocence and the Curse of the Darkness, while they are good, they certainly can not be claimed as legendary and classic.
I am really curious to see how it will look like on PS3 tho.
