Home Launches On November 19, Boosts PS3 Holiday Sales?

It seems there have been a couple interesting Home-related developments; the first of which will appeal to those who track sales statistics like hounds on the hunt, the second of which will simply appeal to all current and prospective PlayStation 3 owners.

Let's start with the first on the list: Sony Computer Entertainment Chairman and CEO Kaz Hirai recently told the Wall Street Journal that he fully expects PlayStation Home to boost PS3 sales, and he doesn't expect the erratic economy to have an adverse effect on the next-gen console. This goes in line with recent analyst predictions regarding the current market position and the "cocooning" effect the gaming industry so often benefits from during economic lags. But nobody is surprised to hear that Home should help PS3 sales, right? What we're really interested in is when Home arrives...and that information may have been leaked. According to Australian site PC Authority, Sony plans to launch Home on November 19, which is just over a month away. If this is true, the timing is immaculate; it sets up the PS3 perfectly for the first major holiday rush in Black Friday, and should continue to give the system a boost through Christmas.

Sony didn't confirm the previous rumor that Home might launch on October 24, and they will likely remain mute on the possibility of a November 19 release. When they feel like handing out the official press release, they will do so, and we won't get anything definitive until that time. But as soon as that time comes, you will know the truth. Will it be Nov. 19...?

i seriously doubt it'll boost sales, cuz with only a month before Christmas, the general public won't know it's there. plus, not many people would buy a console just for a spiffed up version of Second Life.

Second Life is to Home as Pong is to Virtua Tennis 3. Home should never even be compared to Second Life.
As for no one knowing of it. I have several 360 fanboy friends who want to buy a PS3 because of Home. People who are interested in purchases like these are fairly well informed.
Assuming Home launches well, it'll gain huge acclaim and shift units by the truck load.

@thepoetrazel - Thank you. It gets on my nerves when people compare Home to Second Life. Almost annoys me as much as when 360 fanboys claim that LBP is just Spore with Sackboys.

Ghanaboi and I are sympatico, here's my take on the issue: besides the big hardware costs of making the PS3 they never cut the cost because it is clear to anyone with a brain that PS3 is gonna pwn this Xmas. Don't get me wrong, with that cheap price on 360 it may pull ahead in numbers, but when an intelligent person pits the long list of PS3 games including the massive exclusives, with PSN's increasing superiority, Blu-Ray abilities, and now HOME against M$s Queers of War and Fable II lineup, I think we know who should be hitting the home run. Bundles will be big this year. But for Gods sake they need to advertise all this info!! There are still people who don't know what LBP or HOME is. Where are my bloody commercials?

Lets compare the cheapest 360 with the cheapest PS3. The $200 x360 doesn't even have a HDD, it doesn't play blu-ray (neither do the others), microsoft is too cheap to offer free online play (sony does though), as far as I know xbox 360 doesn't even have wi-fi (even a Wii has wi-fi; hahaha), The red ring of death problem still isn't solved, and what kind of person would get a 360 now when they could waite a couple years for the new xbox720 (drum role, please)?

Homeless, that's actually kind of funny. Oh well, it'll be out for us soon, let them eat cake.

I'd have to agree. As of now, HOME will push sales pretty well, but if they would advertise the thing, then they would definitely spike sales even higher.

Same goes for LBP and just about anything Sony for that matter. The only commercials I ever see for Sony are the ones where they combine 4 or so games, only showing like a split sec of each one. It's a cool commercial, don't get me wrong, yet it's too quick and forgettable...

Home will be awesome, the possibilities with it are limitless. Being a beta tester, there are a lot of great suggestions in the beta forum that just opens my eyes to how good it can be. As it stands now its pretty damn cool, just wish all my friends had access to it.

Hey Ben, can I get a little shout for giving you the news tip a couple of days ago? ;)
Although I'm sure you knew all about it and were just waiting to find some other source to confirm there story.
