Vader And Yoda Finally Set To Square Off In Soul Calibur IV

When Namco Bandai made Darth Vader and Yoda exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Soul Calibur IV respectively, some gamers saw this as a dirty trick. We can't create the legendary "Star Wars" battle this way!

But clearly, that was only a little marketing ploy, and the time has come to give the fans what they want. According to Joystiq, Namco has just announced that the blank spot on each version's roster will soon be filled in, provided you wish to fork over the $5 required. Players of the PS3 version will be able to download and use Yoda, and players of the 360 version will be able to download and use Darth Vader on October 23. This is plenty of incentive to pop in SCIV for a few more rounds, isn't it? This generation, what with the advent of downloadable content and all, developers can continually add a great deal of longevity to aging games. Perhaps it's wrong to call SCIV "aging," but in this industry, you're fresh for about one week until another big release comes along and eclipses your hype. Thankfully, having Vader and Yoda available simultaneously on both versions of the game will resurrect any lost interest.

Perhaps the best way to test your skills with your favorite "Star Wars" character is to head online...can you imagine how many Vader vs. Yoda contests there will be after the 23rd?

Do we know if the download is actually the character, or if it's an unlock code?

5 dollars for a character? For that price the DLC should have a bunch of extras...

Yeah, definitely passing. For one, I disagree with the tactics they keep using in the SC games. This exclusive for a time BS is garbage. Additionally, Pavlovic makes a great point, $5 for a single character that more than likely already exists on your disc anyway and just needs an unlock code. Wtf...

Yeah, I knew it was gonna happen eventually. But really, $5 dollars? The game isnt worth paying an extra $5 for another character.

Not getting my money, I like Yoda but I hear he is quite annoying to work with. Also this Gen is nickel-and-diming me to death. I think it would have been enough to release these characters for free just to generate more hype and interest in the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I bought it, I needed a good fighter. But look at what else they are doing: the "customization" packs on PSN only unlock things you can get by playing the game and applying yourself a little. I'd say this is for hardcore Star Wars fans only, Force Unleashed too, that game was pitiful imo.

totaly agree with you, the downloadable pack can be obtained by just playing the game till certain point. so wuts the point. Also, I hate this customization thing which can literally make the character look super ugly or weird just to have all the high skill point so you can have "shave damage, or null ring out etc." But it sacrifice the cool and original look of the characters. ( the other day, I was fighting online, I literally have this "Bear-look thing" keeps coming to fight with me again and again and again and again. sick of it lol )

The SC II's weapon master mode is far better than this customization thing. The truth is, you dont want to change the original cool look of the character, you just want to change their weapon, thats wut the classic Soul Calibur series is all about. such is my opinion.

LOL, I feel ya BigBoss, the craziest stuff goes down online, and I know when I come up against a weird looking dude or chick I'm probably gonna die. Everyone fights so cheaply too, confusticate them all!

Glad I didn't give Bandai my money for this game. I can't support companies that do such idiotic marketing plans. However, I wouldn't of bought the game anyways. It's just not my cup of tea. Game looks good but I would get bored too quickly, kinda like I did with the past MK games.

I just cant believe they didn't bring back Chronicles of the Sword mode, from SCIII. That alone kept me from purchasing the game.

Although I did love changing/customizing characters' outfits.
