Treyarch On World At War: "The Game Will Speak For Itself"

Last we checked, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the most popular Xbox Live game on the planet, and certainly one of the most popular on the PlayStation Network. This isn't much of a surprise, considering the awesome intensity of that game's online multiplayer, but once again, Treyarch is confident they can compete this year with Call of Duty: World at War.

According to a recent interview with Videogamer.com, World at War senior producer Noah Heller has said the game "feels much better than any Call of Duty I've had a chance to play." We'll have to assume that includes CoD4, but Treyarch's effort, scheduled to arrive on November 14, could be a worthy competitor to CoD4. Ever since it was announced that the fifth series installment would return to World War II after Infinity Ward took it forward to modern day, the doubters have been everywhere. But Treyarch is well aware of the doubters, and they believe the new game will speak for itself. Heller said:

"Infinity Ward is a great studio and there's always going to be great studios. I think that the game will speak for itself and it will show people that we're a serious studio that people should take notice of. I'm not going to compare us to Infinity Ward but I will say that everyone who is involved in the CoD brand holds it to the highest degree and we feel like we're finally approaching the bar that we needed to approach, and that's a significant thing for us. So when it comes to the time for us to make our next game, or even when it comes time to make the next map packs or anything else connected to this game, we're going to know that that bar is set pretty high."

To their credit, Treyarch has been saying for months that they're not ignoring the quality bar set by CoD4. In fact, they realize they have to produce the best WWII shooter ever if they wish to live up to expectations, and you know...they may have done just that. Come mid-November, when the craze generated from the super huge titles has died down a bit, Call of Duty: World at War should be an excellent option.

I got to give it a try...it sounds like they really tried hard to make it as good as COD4. We shall see...

At least they're acknowledging this... but yeah the first three sucked so it's kinda funny when they say "...everyone who is involved in the CoD brand holds it to the highest degree..."

But i respect COD3 for it's long campaign,COD4 was short, the online n superb graphics made up for it.
I think COD5 campaign will be long too,i might go for it,choices r really difficult.
I'm waitin November ending to make ma list of wanted-games n have all once.

CoD4 wasn't _that_ short and it was awesome... and CoD2 for the 360 was fairly long -- and awesome.

I'm picking up 5 cuz it has splitscreen coop. Wife and I love shooters. Otherwise, I would have passed it over like brussel sprouts.

Don't think I'll have the money for this one.

Honestly, being in the 360 beta of it, I'm not impressed. I like the maps, but the gameplay right now needs some tweaking. The game feels out of balance in so many ways. The audio has constant swearing in multiplayer too, which is annoying, despite the fact I have no issues with langauge, just it's excessive in this case. Takes away from the game. Has potential, and I take back alot of skepticism I had on it before, but I won't be picking it up unless the balance issues are solved.

In my opinion COD4 was one of the worst "Game of Year" winners ever.

Canceled my CoD5 game. Resistance 2's got everything I and my brother need. With 40 Gigs on Blu-ray DL, and all the features they have ... pretty much it owned CoD4 and 5.

I just checked out the videos of the beta multi-player gameplay on another website. This game looks fantastic. The final product should be as good as COD4 just another era in history. Get a 7 kill killstreak and call in the dogs.....crazy.

Who on earth in their right mind would say that one game is better than its succesor? That's like saying that gran turismo 4 is better than gran turismo 5!
