White Knight Chronicles Battle Details

The closer we get to its Japanese release, the more the intricate details begin to surface. The latest concerning White Knight Chronicles centers on the battles, which of course will be a primary focus of the hotly anticipated RPG.

According to the recent edition of Famitsu and reported on by Kotaku, players can use both one-handed and two-handed weapons in battle. As one might expect, the former allows you to land quick strikes in succession while the latter is more powerful, but slower, making it more difficult to chain blows together. There are also two different types of magic - "Holy" and "Spirit" - and there are four attributes for Spirit Magic: Fire, Water, Wind and Earth. However, here's where things get a little unique- evidently, using magic doesn't drain a standard MP meter; it actually drains health. This means we'll have to implement a bit of strategy before whipping out all our most powerful spells. Lastly, it seems that players will receive items and objects they can use after winning battles, and it goes beyond the traditional potions or antidotes or whatever. Sometimes, you won't immediately know the use of a particular item won, but we assume there will be ways of finding out...

White Knight Chronicles is scheduled to launch in Japan on December 25, although Level 5 hasn't provided anyone with a North American or European release date just yet. We had hoped to receive it at the Tokyo Game Show, but it didn't happen, so we're still waiting. Let's hope it's not long after the holidays!

I really hope this comes out to North America before Summer 09... but maybe that thinking is too wishful.

Tears to Tiara, Cross Edge, White Knight.... WOULD IT HURT TO SEND THESE TO AMERICA!?

I think when they have released it in Japan they will focus fully on Europe and North America.

Question is, how long does it take to localize and translate for all the countries in Europe?

I kind of assumed that with the arguably lengthy dev time on this title maybe they were forward-thinking in localization, as opposed to SquareEnix who don't seem to sync up lips and language for us until the Japanese version is already released. Probably wishful thinking, but man I wanna get my greedy paws on this one.

This is actually THE game I bought my PS3 for. I've been waiting for a year and a half now, and it will be two years by the time this game is released.

*sigh*

I think this will be the one that kicks off the RPG goodness, usually it's the first FF title to launch but that sucker is so far off now with the extra port time it's re-goddamn-diculous.

Looks good and sounds good. A must buy for the rpgers. Let's hear some good reviews out of Japan and I'll be foaming at the mouth for this one.
