GTAIV Trophies Coming October 27

Grand Theft Auto IV is one of the best games of the generation, and many gamers are just searching for excuses to play it through again. Well, PlayStation 3 owners, how's about those Trophies?

According to Gamers Platform, Rockstar has just sent out an e-mail alert that says the long-awaited Trophies will be headed to the PS3 version of GTAIV on Monday, October 27. As expected, they will not be retroactive, which means you'll have to replay the game in order to nab 'em all. For many, this is good incentive to start up a new game, especially once they see the Trophy list for the game, which is rumored to be quite large. However, many PS3 owners are hoping this doesn't become a trend: while GTAIV launched before Trophies arrived via firmware update, there are still titles releasing today that don't come with Trophy support. Sometimes, the developers will deliver them later, but as they're almost never retroactive, many gamers consider the Trophy enhancement as "too little, too late." Then again, with something as good as GTAIV, it shouldn't be that difficult to coerce someone to start up a new adventure. Besides, there are a few of you who haven't played it yet, right...?

As for the downloadable content exclusive to the Xbox 360 version, and all the rumors saying DLC is coming for the PS3 version, we're still waiting on that. Rockstar has said there will be DLC, but we just don't know when, and that's frustrating for GTA fans.

Not frustarted by the DLC for GTA IV. Trophies are nice. I may play a new game from scratch. I got my hands full with the up-coming new games tho'

Don't need to start a new game thanks to taking my time and sitting nice and well at 58%(just nailed Kiki too). I'm think this update couldn't have come at a better time! You get a trophy for beating the game.

Yeah it is definatley getting irritating that all the games that i have trophies for are coming via update. Are games like Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet going to have trophies out of the box?

thats a nice feature, cuz so far, for all my ps3 games, I hv not been able to use that feature.

You have obviously not played Dead Space, Bioshock or Far Cry 2, those come with Trophies out of the box, surprisingly. Socom did not, but we'll have to wait on those. LBP and R2 better have trophy support, especially if those earlier mentioned games have them.

GTA4 ... can't seem to finish the game. Should I just start over after Oct 27? I guess I will ... but once Resistance 2 arrives ... well that'll be the end of my trophy efforts in GTA4

This is the single game I know is good and haven't brought myself to play yet (mostly for moral reasons and parental reasons) but maybe this is enough to push me over the edge to buying it. Seeing it at $30 would be nice though.

Im all for trophies, especially since GTA4 is so short. Besides Ive had to redo most of my games anyway cause my ps3 got messed up (tears up).

I probably will never go back and play GTAIV, unless there is a drought of PS3 games and I've played everything else.

If true, I still applaud Rockstar for bringing them via patch. Nice to see many 3rd party developers giving Sony Playstation some love.

To tell u the truth i feel some o' y'all just hatin GtaIv cause first of all it's not a ps3 exclusive n in addition 360 gettin a DLC.

When this DLC comes out on 360,i'll get GtaIV for ma 360.

I'm torn, i would like to get the trophies, but i have already done the story twice over, and i will probably get bored and end up stopping, not to mention christmas!

I applaud Rockstar for releasing the patch, I now have more games to play than I have time to play them. The games that have released just over the past 2 weeks is gonna take me well into the Spring to catch up and get all the trophies.

There seems to be conflicting statements by my friends here and I'm a bit confused, Ben please respond if you could. Here's my sitch: I had to restart the game cuz it got that glitch toward the end where no more missions exist and I'm still on the 1st island now, so when the patch comes will I be able to grab the available trophies with that saved game or is it necessary for me to start an all new game?

You have to start completely over from scratch, this is no different than any other post release trophy game. The only exception are ranks in an on-line game since the data is updated and kept by the servers, i.e. Warhawk and probably SOCOM.

Thanks guy, in that case I probably won't go forward with my newer game and just start over, but not for a long time. The new titles have overcome me and my wallet, but Winter is gaming season and I think a lot of people who aren't hating on GTAIV will come back for trophies.
