Cloud: New FFVII Compilation Title "Coming Soon"?

'sigh' We really hate to do this, because we despise any Final Fantasy-related disappointment more than anyone, but Square-Enix - and the rumor mongers around the Internet - always seem to rekindle a spark of hope somewhere deep within our ravenous, Cloud-hungry souls.

This picture here popped up online a few days ago, and it's causing quite the stir. Clearly, that's a picture of Cloud and the words included are, "Coming Soon." We're not even going to entertain the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII remake (we're done with that), but Final Fantasy Union believes it could be a new installment in the FFVII Compilation series. Given the history, which you can read more about if you so choose, there is the possibility Square-Enix is preparing a new title that takes place after the events of Dirge of Cerberus. This probably isn't what fans of the long-running role-playing franchise want to hear, though, considering that PS2 game represented a low point in the critically acclaimed and widely adored FF franchise. Of course, they're not willing to dismiss the idea of a sequel to FFVII, but again, we've given up all hope of that particular option, too. Thing is, every time we see something with Cloud, it turns out to be a movie or just some new handheld game. Yippee.

Don't get us wrong; Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was fantastic, but in our humble opinion, this is one series that absolutely needs a next-gen console to truly shine. If Cloud is involved, great, but don't toy with our heads again, S-E. Not again.

remake FF VII for the PS3. there hasn't been a good rpg to get me attached for three years straight like FF VII.

I'm thinking that's the blu-ray movie that's gonna get released next year.

I really really hope they do a sequal of FFVII on PS3, no extention of Vincent (DoC), no extention of Zack (CC), no extention of Geova or mother (Advent Children), just make a full scaled and complete grand sequal, thats it! no partial extention like aformentioned installments in the past, just give us a direct sequal on PS3. Then I will be in heaven. lol

I'll be skeptical until something is officially is announce. I'm with Ben, I won't let these rumors ever build up my hope up for a Final Fantasy VII remake again. On a side note I just got my Resistance 2 beta invite. I am downloading right now.

I figure its just a pretty screen for the Advent Children Complete. It is set to come out within 6 months so its not hard to imagine they would try to do something like this.

I wish. Whats their deal. If I had a slam dunk at making a buttload of $$$ then I would use it. We ALL know EVERYONE would be in on this... Just dont know whats goin on in the crazy mind of Square Enix these days. Lets not give the customers what they want!!!

Well I dont mind. Sony owns rights to the FF7 univers (One of the greatest in my opinion) so sooner or later square enix will have to talk to sony on the remake.Trust me Sony wants it @ Square wants it to but if it was announced now or within the last 3 years FF13 would be overshadowed completely.. Sorry to get hopes up but I say 2 more years. Once FF13 releases and garners its atttention and cash there will be a secret PS3 trailer at the End of FF13 and an official announcement of the game for PS3 will come shortly after lol.

A sequel to FF7 would be a no -.-, If anything just remake 7 thats it. I mean face it, if they were to make a sequel its square ENIX, not squaresoft anymore, soft is what made the series great, once enix came they just gave up. Look at FFX, they made a sequel, FFX-2 yea that just went straight down the drain it went from a good story to just depressing storyline and the main character into a pop star??? anyway I would say This image comes from Advent Children Complete or its photoshopped.

I don't know. Maybe the reason squeenix hasn't made a bull blown sequel and just a lot of lower key spin offs if because that's all they're capable of anymore. I find it hard to believe that they could really create something on par with what they gave us in FF7!

btw. i think Final Fantasy 13 is overrated.
I hope it will become something like Final Fantasy 7 or maybe 8-9, but i doubt it.
The PS2 rpgs and the new Xbox360 rpgs from SE are just Sandart in my opinion, but hey im not u guys^^. maybe itz the end for Final Fantasy??!!

I have to agree that the S-E rpg's on the 360 are pretty close to garbage.
I played a few and i am not at all impressed. actually to the point where i don't remember the name of the one where you start out in the jail and the girl thinks you are someone else. anyway just not good enough to hold me like RPG's of old. Lost Odyssy was alright and i held on to the bitter end but by the time i was done i jsut wanted all the crying to stop

Lost Odyssey is great, altho I admit its character design is a bit stiff and the color is not vibrant enough, however, in terms of its story, game play, depth and the beautifully written dreams and Nobuo's music scores, its the best JRPG in this generation so far. Infinite Undiscovery is fun at times and easy to progress, but the gameplay and the depth of the story is only ok, and it has no beautiful music (just some random electronic sound bite can not be called music imo).

With all that said, I believe FF13 and v13 gonna stand out, still my biggest hope for Square, but I do admit its a Do or Die situation for the FF series, if it disappoints again like ff12, then FF series will really lose its fans. I am still positive so far.

Lastly, I feel sometimes, once a game has been done too much research, too much preview, review, too much demo, screenshot, too much attention for years before it comes out, naturally its hard to stun or shock people. Rather, some games come out from nowhere, and once its released and been played, all will be stunned and in awe. Imagine if we dont know about this FF13 or v13 at all, and all of a sudden it came out, and we take it from home and start playing, are we not gonna be shocked by its graphics and its scale. such is my point, too much hype, too much focus is no good.

I thought this was common knowledge, guys, but they DID make a sequel to FFVII. It's called "Advent Children" and is a feature-length CG movie.

Honestly, if anyone remembers the end of Crisis Core, they kind of set everything up for a remake. I'm not saying we'll get it any time soon, but I am 90% certain that we'll see it sometime this generation.

It appears to say Cloud: Message. Coming Soon. So what's the message? Is it coming soon or is some release coming soon? If it's a release then it can't be a game because we haven't heard of it. SquareEnix keeps its secrets, but they can't keep FF games under wraps until near release. A sequel to Dirge would be a mistake at any rate. Probably a new Cloud DVD or even a CD. I'll wait for the "message" but not with bated breath.

FFxiii is probably still a year away, say what you want about the decline of the series, but there are still many big fans (such as myself) who still find hope that there will be a return to greatness. They should really just shut up though until 13 is about to release, or let them talk about Dissidia for handheld fans. Hype can only last so long and 3 years has brought us all to our limit.

In the meantime I'm having fun with Eternal Sonata, any chance of a review on the PS3 version Mr. Dutka? Big Ben? Killa B?

It would be great if this is a FF7 remake, but looking at this image in Photoshop CS, I can see pixel binding around the characters, like the text was dragged and dropped over top and then the background made transparent to allow Clouds face to show through.
Totally loks like a amateur photoshop job if you ask me. If I have time today, I will try to locate edges, strip away the layers and get to the original image.

I play with photoshop alot and I really beieve the text here was added after the fact by a PS Noob..
