RE5 Producer: RE5 Title Screen Couldn't Be Done On Wii

We don't mean to offend the Wii owners out there, but you have to admit...this is pretty comical.

Clearly, Nintendo had no intention of competing with the PS3 and 360 in the realm of technical capability; the industry legend instead decided to institute a gaming innovation that managed to capture the interest of millions worldwide. It may be the very first game console to appeal to non-gamers everywhere, and that's no easy accomplishment. But these days, with all the unbelievable technical achievements on the other two consoles, the Wii continues to look more and more dated. Capcom Resident Evil 5 producer Juntake Uchi may have inadvertently added fuel to that fire, too. According to NintendoEverything, Uchi said that while the Wii "is a wonderful piece of hardware," he says it (along with the PS2) wouldn't even be able to handle "the title screen of RE5." Heh...we're not sure what's on that title screen, but it's an amusing quote nonetheless. This is one of those times where everyone has a good, harmless chuckle, although Wii fans probably aren't too happy with the comment.

We maintain our belief that the Wii has an extreme lack of fantastic software in comparison to the PS3/360, but as many have said, it's not so much about the software with the Wii. Guess it's just something people will play forever, even if they're still playing Wii Sports. And to steal the famous line from "Seinfeld;" "not that there's anything wrong with it." :)

I really cannot stand the Wii. Yes, I have played it (a few times). I can't believe Nintendo can degrade from something like the SNES down to the Wii.

Lets say that something like the Wiimote and Wii Sports was packed together for $50 and came out on the PS2 in 2003-2005. It would not have been anywhere near as successful as the Wii is. I guarantee it. Which is a shame because the PS2 had a bunch of amazing games and an amazing normal controller.

That bugs me because the Wii is $250 and most people just buy it and play once every 4 months. It's a sales success but that doesn't stop it from being the equivalent of a fisher price piece of crap.

The main reason it bugs me is that Nintendo is capable of greatness. SNES proved that. But they make the flippin' Wii instead. I wish Apple or some random company would have came out with the Wii a long time ago. Then Nintendo might have made a good console this gen.

Actually, you know what? Everything I just typed is pointless because I just remembered that Nintendo is only capable of mario spin-offs and other crap games now. Sooo, a good console wouldn't make a difference. Gamers lose no matter what I guess.

As much as it pains me to say it (Nintendo was Godlike to me at one point, as it was to most kids in the '80s), I have to agree completely.

All wii games fit into three categories, first party spins offs, gimmicky motion control games, and weird-ass japanese anime that makes no sense.

I bought a wii...I played it for about 5 minutes and got exhausted. I realized I wasn't going to realy get into it cuz I'm lazy. So I boxed it back up and gave it to my apartment managers kids for christmas and got 3 months free rent since she couldn't find one for them.

Its true, Ninty has gone off on some strange tangent like a drunken family member on Christmas. The success of the Wii continues to baffle me except where perhaps parents want their kids playing games that force them to move around and thus be less sedentary. The trouble started when they dumped the CD format for N64 (losing the Final Fantasy franchise by doing this) and went cartridge. 64 had some decent games (Zelda64) but they still couldn't do the sweet new thing: FMV. OK, lesson learned, but the Gamecube was just a half assed PG13 Next gen system, now they are fully gone on a bender of casualness. I wonder if with all of the money they make on Wii, will they ever return to making solid high quality hardware again? I honestly miss the old Nintendo we once knew, it was difficult moving over to Sony at first, but to paraphrase Ronald Reagan on his own party: I didn't leave Nintendo, Nintendo left me.

I've always been a Nintendo fangirl, I've never bought anything other than Nintendo this and Nintendo that...but as soon as I heard about the Wii I was turned off by the whole idea of it.
Everyone I know says they stop even using them after a month or so.
It's too bad, because in some ways I really do miss the feel of games like Donkey Kong and the good Mario games.

You know, it probably couldn't handle the title screen of RE5, this game looks like it has intense graphics.

Well that sucker (The Wii) is employed as home decor and thats it! He has moved on to the Ps3 Promised Land. Man those days of watching such a feared Halo 2 King flailing his arms were priceless though!!!

Its a shame that the once "GODS OF GAMING" nintendo are now a laughing stock. Nintendo (along with others) paved the way for microsoft and sony. Its kind of a shame they cant get passed something they've done a milion times over. Really, how many times can you play mario and save the princess or become link and get back the triforce before you say "I need something more adult".

Wii's CPU is alot slower than PS3's and X360's.
Wii's CPU is basically like faster-clocked GameCube's CPU.

@djjake
IMO, Wii is not kids console. its console for everyone.
and like when im stress because something (homework, exam, money problem...). i prefer play simple games on PC using camspace, like those on Wii using wiimote.

btw yes PS2 use DVD just like Xbox 360, but PS2 can't handle the menu because its alot slower hardware.
game storage media doesn mean that the console can do the same thing.

just like when many people say PS3 got bluray, so ps3 will have awesome graphics ;)

ps3 have good graphic because of the CPU and GPU processing the data stored on BluRay.

I hate how people say it's a "console for everyone". It's not one for me. It's also not one for any hardcore gamer who has any pride. It's just a console for extremely casual gamers, kids, old people, and fanboys who can't let go of Nintendo. Deep down, I feel they know it sucks.

NiteKrawler said it harshly, but I agree with him. The Wii 'is for everyone' in the same way that fecking flash games are 'for everyone'; but anyone who is interested in what are generally perceived as great games would be making an unwise decision in purchasing a Wii (imo). The great games on the Wii don't appeal to me, and I maintain that they appeal to a niche audience. The shovelware seems to be what appeals to non-gamers, not surprisingly.

USUAL SONY FANBOYS here. Where's the news about Wii kicking the crap out of the PS3 for the 12th month in a row?
The only reason we get (negative)Wii news on a PS site is to ignite a lil hard-on and mindlessly bash the console. I have yet to see a game greater than Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the PS3 or even the 360.
BTW if Nintendos so bad, when's the last time Sony made a great game?.... oh thats right they DONT make games at all, they hire others to do it! LOL!

Seriously just enjoy Resistance and whatevers left of the PS3.

Metroid Prime 3
Secret of Mana
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
World of Goo
Super Mario RPG

MGS4, LittleBIGPlanet -> awesome game
Heavenly Sword -> not interested
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune -> fun game
Valkyria Chronicles -> its still unreleased :)
Devil May Cry 4 -> its multiplatform, and played best on PC with gamepad
Soul Calibur 4 -> its multiplatform Battlefield: Bad Company -> multiplatform,
GTA4 -> multiplatform, and coming to pc.
Oblivion -> multiplatform and played best on PC, the mods on PC also great.
Saints Row 2 -> multiplatform
Resistance, Resistance 2 -> i cant do headshot using gamepad :(
Assassins Creed -> multiplatform and play best on PC with gamepad or just KB M
Killzone 2, God of War 3 -> its still unreleased
Bioshock -> multiplatform and playd best on PC using KB M,
inFamous -> its still unreleased ;)

sure a lot of unreleased titles.

Nintendo have many fun games and exclusive. you only can play that game if you have Wii (or just play it on your friend's house).

@ace
game is not only about hardware power and awesome graphic.

if, game is only about hardware power and awesome graphic, Console will die.
all Great games will be on PC only.

pc always have better, faster hardware.
pc virtually have no limitation.

pc games can benefit the fastest hardware available. but the game's engine also need to be highly scalable. to allow "Slow pc" to play the game.

My opinion... Console games will always be better now with the HD generation for 2 main reasons.. 1) You don't have to worry about your console hardware, or upgrade it so the game would look "great" and 2) No matter what, my games on the PS3 will look amazing... to where as the PC, you need to upgrade and spend money...

Consoles are a win/win... PC is a win/lose...

And if your telling me you can get up-to-date games running on your PC without having to upgrade everyother game... Yea, tape that mouth of yours up.

In terms of graphics and sound PC will always use the latest technology. THAT IS WHY you upgrade. You wouldn't be able to upgrade your PS3, say, tomorrow. On a PC you can upgrade about every 6 months.
PC GRAPHICS AND SOUND WILL ALWAYS BE SUPERIOR TO HOME CONSOLES.

The only 2 reasons why the Wii is so popular right now is
1: Nintendo copied Sony's motion-sensitive technology that is on all PS3's (eccept for the sensor-bar stuff where you aim the Wii controller at the TV)
2: Nintendo advertises that technology on every comercial they release but Sony never even mentions it except on the crappy PS3 that you can test out @ wal-mart and other retailers.

So, when all is said and done... Wii goes in the shitter. Sorry Caliko... But let's face the facts... You never see anything on the intenernet about how great the Wii is, or what kind of facinating games come out on Wii... Super Smash Bros was a very big fail for me... The Wii mote was a fail as well, if they did what Sony did with the Sixaxis, it would have enabled better gameplay and flexablitly with games... Developers have to find a way to run the game toe-to-toe so it would work fine with the Wiimote... the movements, action buttons etc... I don't think they like that, not one bit.

I'm not sure if I agree, but only time will tell....Sure Sony came out with the Six-Axis...but how many people actually use it, except for the few games that make you...and I seem to remember a few people saying that the game Lair's rating was hindered by the fact that the controls on the six-axis ruined the game. X-Box hasn't seemed to have come out with any controllers that are more Wiimote oriented.. Except maybe guitar hero and rockband for all systems...but unless they come up with a way to have Wii-Mote type controllers without having to spend a fortune on all the little accessories you have to buy.(Wii Sports pack, wii steering will, wii fitness etc, Wii swords...) One of the things that bothers me about all these games with special controllers to play them...is that they start piling up and you need to find a place to store them...My guess would be that in the future they're going to try and do away with controllers of some sort and focus more on games that read your body movements, Sony's always been trying to find ways to use the pseye, and they're pushing to have better framerates off of the new PS3 Camera...I think that's where they're heading...but like I said, I guess only time will tell...Although I'm curious...Where have you read that they are moving their systems to have more Wiimote like functions....as far as I've seen, There haven't been too many details on the next gen systems coming up except speculation, If you've got something that I haven't seen, please share....just aahhh...curious.(sticking with the theme...:D)

I really like your first reply. If you want more on what sony is planning check out this:

Microsoft is also planning a similar Wii-like controller, if you don't like the wiimote, oh well get used to it. It's the future. Since when have you seen Nintendo come up with a new controller and not have the entire industry follow??

oh and I believe the comment that nintendo is the most copied company in gaming history...shouldn't that honor go to Coleco or Atari? Didn't Nintendo take their whole idea of a catridge gaming system and make it better? Although granted they thankfully got rid of joystick hand cramp in favour of the thumb cramping controllers of today...so Yeah when it comes to high quality video game systems...I wouldn't put Nintendo at the top...as far as breakthrough controller technology...yeah they've been pretty innovative, except they need to do more to perfect it or else someone will take it and make it better...and then Nintendo will have to start all over again...as per my first comment...don't you love a full circle conversation?

The new controller technology is so new it can't be perfect, it just can't. Do you remember when cell phone technology first came out?? HUGE phone, bad reception, 2 color LCD, no picture/text messagin, heck I think some didn't even have a screen!! Same with televisions, computers, microwaves, etc.

Of course they will have to add functionality, but not "start all over". The Wii MotionPlus technology wasn't even possible until now, it couldn't have been done in 2006!! This is just the beginning like the first cell phone or the first NES controller, it will evolve eventually.

As for Nintendo not being the pioneer in gaming:

Mario Bros.: Introduction of side scrolling adventure, every game that followed until 1996 looked like Super Mario Bros.

Mario 64: Real 3D environment and 360 degree movement. Introduction of ANALOG JOYSTICK 360 degree movement.

Star Fox 4: Introduction to rumble function. Every console after took a piece of Star Fox.

Gameboy Camera: Introduction to camera function for gaming.

Nintendo originally planned to have gamers faces uploaded onto game characters in 1999. They never finished developing the idea(I think I know why). But I always thought it would be cool if Sony or MS took the idea with their HD consoles. It would be a fun way to play Guitar Hero or Gears of War!!

P.S.
Microsoft: Introduction to kick ass online gaming!!!

I give no props to Sony whatsoever because they choose to play follow the leader instead of creating their own path.

hmm...interesting valid points, but not entirely accurate. I'm not going to say what you are saying is fanboyism, because a lot of people on here seem to be too willing to throw that around to anyone who doesn't bow down every night to sony alters..lol, but you do seem to have a biased opinion on Nintendo, just as I have a biased opinion for Sony.

As for Nintendo introducing side scrolling adventure, they didn't introduce it, they just made it better with the techonology they had. I'm sure Atari owners will remember playing side scrolling with Pitfall, or Moon Patrol. Defender (1980) was even described as a "scrolling shooter"

As for 3d environments, the first "3D" game was Battlezone (again 1980 16 years ahead of N64) With technology improvements Nintendo went with the trend borrowed the idea of 3d gaming and improved it for the 64.

Again, The analog joystick was not created by Nintendo. The joystick was around for years and used in flight simulators. In 1995 (a year before N64) Sony actually released a dual analog controller called the FlightStick for their game Descent. Nintendo just took that idea, with new technology and created the single thumbstick. Sony replied with the Dual analog thumbstick. Sony, Sega and Nintendo were doing thumbsticks all at the same time. Nintendo released their single thumbstick in June of 96, Sega released a single thumbstick in Jule of 96. By November, Sony had the Dual analog. Less then a year after, they had released the Dual shock controller with a built in rumble feature...a step above Nintendo which had a rumble pack as an accessory that required extra batteries to make it work. Nintendo took that idea of feedback and involving the gamer more and created the Wii Mote...which brings us one step closer to Virtual Reality...which has been talked about for years before gaming was popular.

So who leads and who rips off? Who can tell, it's kind of like asking which came first the chicken or the egg? In the end with healthy competition and companies improving on others ideas, the people who win are us the gamer. and it's up to us to choose which product to support. And unless they screw up royally, I'll probably stick to Sony. And you and I will probably have this conversation again when the Next Generation of systems comes out.

I'll talk to you soon!

Yes I beleive Mario 64 was the first with actual 3D movement.

Nintendo is a Pioneer
and
Sony is a marketing monster.
Lets leave it at that.
It's nice to see a mature gamer on the internet. Thanks for the conversation.
