LittleBigPlanet 2 Already In The Works?
So, you guys enjoying LittleBigPlanet? …I’ll wait for the cries of, “hell yes!” to dissipate before I continue… Done? Okay, good: did you realize it’s very possible that Media Molecule is already hard at work on a sequel?
According to a recent BBC article on the popular game (who doesn’t have a LBP release article of some kind?), it seems that Sony has big plans for SackBoy over the next few years. Check it out; here are a few quotes to pique your interest: “Even before the game has hit the shops, the team are already at work on a sequel.” The article continues: “LittleBigPlanet has big potential. Right now it is just a game but the firm, with Sony, are in talks to turn it into a franchise that could mean spin offs including comics, cartoons, and action figures as well as a publishing platform itself for other brands’ content.” Now, we have no trouble believing that last bit. Perhaps you hadn’t noticed, but the pre-launch marketing blitz includes all sorts of promotional goodies in every possible size, shape, and form of distribution (physical or virtual). Plus, with the rumors that even Disney has signed on to generate licensed content for LittleBigPlanet, we get the distinct feeling that Sony absolutely intends for SackBoy to be the face of the PS3’s future. But could Media Molecule really be blasting away on a sequel already?
We find it slightly more believable that the team is working to enhance the online community aspect of the game, and only when they’re completely happy with it will they turn their attention to LBP 2. But you never know; this whole franchise idea could’ve been in the hopper all along, which means a sequel could be a lot closer than we think…
