Saints Row 3 Takes A "New Direction"
If you’re currently enjoying Saints Row 2, you might want to learn more about it from the development standpoint. Play.tm recently conducted an interview with the game’s Associate Producer Dan Sutton and in addition to revealing some behind-the-scenes details, he also talks briefly about the third installment.
Apparently, the team is already working on it, and Sutton confirms that, although it may go against fan desires, Saints Row 2 will go in a decidedly “new direction.” When talking about how they tie up a lot of loose ends in this sequel; loose ends they left unanswered in the original game, Sutton said, “We've already started work on Saints Row 3, and we have a new direction we want to go in with that which we of course can't talk about.” Of course, this is bound to generate plenty of discussion amongst those who have played through the first two installments in the series, although perhaps it won’t be such a big deal if SR2’s ending is as conclusive as Sutton claims. It’s no surprise that Volition has no estimated release date for the third game (that’d be just too nutty), but we can guarantee Saints followers will be searching high and low for new information in the coming months. What might Volition want to do? What is this “new direction?” And what would you like to see?
Perhaps they’ll go in the direction of Grand Theft Auto and attempt a more authentic sandbox-style presentation, but that may not be what the Saints fans are looking for… If you want to check out the full interview, feel free. Some pretty cool stuff in there.
