Resistance 2 Co-Op: "15-20 Hours"

One of the more appealing aspects of Resistance 2 is bound to be its longevity, in regards to both the single-player campaign and online multiplayer. But did you realize just how robust the online cooperative campaigns will be? Even if you tested them out in the beta, you still have no idea…

According to a post made over at the NeoGAF forums, an Insomniac community manager has provided a gameplay update for R2. He says there will be a total of 6 maps for co-op play, and each map will have several different areas to play through, which should supposedly take “15-20 hours.” If you want to get the full Resistance 2 experience, it’s highly recommended that you tackle any and all available gameplay modes, both offline and online. Here’s the quote in question that confirms the added longevity:

”There are six locations, each has quite a few different areas, and a single-playthrough of any will not show you nearly the entire map or all of the different set-ups on it due to the randomization of the playpath. It probably takes between 15-20 hours to see every single co-op set-up and encounter.”

Now, some have misinterpreted this to mean that each co-op mission/map will take 15-20 hours, but clearly, it doesn’t read that way. What we’re most interested in, though, is that “randomization of the playpath” comment, which – if we’re understanding it correctly – can add even more replay-ability to the cooperative online modes. And if you want to see it all, you’re going to have to invest the time, which you shouldn’t waste blasting away at everyone else in standard Deathmatches. Remember, Insomniac wants to offer you a little something new with R2, so don’t pass on the opportunity!

Awesome. I'm not much of an online player, I can count on both of my hands the hours I've spent online playing with my PS3.

But the co-op in RFOM2 is incredible. I've played through it several times in the beta, and it feels awesome every single time.

You immediately bond with the people in your team. It really feels like everybody is helping each other while playing their part to take down the Chimera.

This is the only game where I've pre-ordered the special edition pack. No, that's not entirely true. I did get the Quake 4 SE. But it definitely seems like I will be getting the most bang for my buck with R2. Awesomeness.

Yea didn't anyone notice this with the beta? I played like 5 different paths altogether just on the one level in the beta. Some were really hard and some were fairly easy. But I barely spent any time with it and I knew it would have lots of iterations.

I didn't think it was all that. It seemed you play the exact same circular map, you just start in a different place every time. I wouldn't call that path randomization. If the first time you go A, B, C, D and the second you go B, C, D, A...I don't see that as a huge innovation.

the co-op and single player are two different stories, which is freakin awesome. I've played through the co op on the beta several times and each time it is different, and amazing. I cannot wait until this game comes out, I think I need to go play another round before the beta goes offline, bye.

Advent Child i'vent played gears2 yet,but watching numerous trailers about both of these games i've chosen my game for da month of november,but don't think r2 is bad,it is may b on par with last year's cod4.But frankly gears2's story evolved a lot.

Gears2 story has evolved a lot. ROFL!!! Yea, its a tremendous improvement. The storyline went from nonexistent to mediocrity. Like going from an F to a B- in a English class. Tremendous improvement!!!

Everyone, Sab has an announcement: Gears2 wins it ALL for actually giving us a story this time! lol.

Look, guy, if u "heart" gears u "heart" gears. I liked gears myself(i thought the fact that Gears lacked effective writing/plot, stopped it from dethroning Halo). But the least u can do is realize ur biases toward the Gears franchise. U sound like a XBOT. Seriously.

First off, if you Google "Gears of War 2 review", you'll find at least 2 reviews, and a few other ratings. OXM has reviewed it already for sure. Second, just because gamerankings doesn't have a review, doesn't mean none exist. A select few people have had their hands on this game for a little while now. Third, for you to come here and say that GoW2 is better than R2 when you haven't played GoW2, but lots of people here are in the beta, clearly shows that you're the only fanboy. If you'll go back and read, this thread was completely on-topic with no comparisons to other games, just praise for the game that the post referenced...until you.

Dude, don't stir things up. There was no fanboyism here until you brought it.

Even if it did take 20 hours per map it wouldn't be that unsual. Look at COD4, to get to the top there it takes about 250 hours.

Man,i'm not an xbot,don't get me wrong.I've only 3games on ma 360 those r gears,halo3 n bioshock.Frankly i'm a ps family fan but i'm just saying dat resistance hasn't evolved like mgs,gears or any other elite tittles.i'm upst with r2 cuz sony spent a loads of money on res franchise n still dis game feels a bit like an arcade shooter.

I see no fanboy problem here, so no more accusations.

However, SABIT, you're making judgments on a game you've never played. That's never a good idea. Furthermore, in no way do I see how Gears 2 does anything new. On the other hand, having played the R2 beta and seen the videos, that actually appears to be a fresh experience.

i remember when they said it would take 100 hours to complete GTA4, one of my friends done it in under 60, that aside R2 is an amazing game and i've already pre-ordered it :-D

I've never played Gears, and probably never will...after my girlfriend's brother went through 5 360's in one year...I decided to save my money for a PS3. I was a little dissapointed that I never got to play Halo 3 and gears...but not enough to run out and buy a system for them. And now my GF's brother traded his 6th 360 in for a PS3 (good thing he paid extra for the best buy warranty) But as far as R2 goes, yeah I'm excited about it. I've played both the private beta and the public and am really looking forward to this game. The only problems I have with it are ones I think are Beta problems. Does anyone else feel that the whole screen has a bit of too much yellow color to it? I am glad to hear that the coop mode and the single player mode are different, because who wants to play a game with 7 other Nathan Hale's? As far as which one is the better game, we'll just have to wait until they release, then we'll see who sits at the top...(although something tells me that that won't silence the fanboy critics, but does anyone think that that will ever go away?)See you on the battlefield!

I am the same way! My 360 friends baby their machines. They take breaks every 2 hours! I constantly play 8hrs+...on my ps3 and my launch ps3 takes it like a champ. Ive actually witnessed a 360 kill COD4 while my friend was comparing it to Ps3 version (He moved it while it was on).

I see Gears2 and it looks stunning! I feel a lil left out, but only a LITTLE. I can count the games Im missin out on (that I care about) on one hand. That bein said Im afraid to POSSIBLY throw money away on a 360.

Resis. 2=more for your $ (Im sure if they downscaled the experience to sharpen up the visuals It'd rival Gears2 pixel for pixel)

Gears 2=beautiful visuals (it has a physical disc limitation so more concentration on visual perfection)

Speaking of babying XBOX's: I have a friend that only put about 8 hrs on Fable 2 because his xbox would red ring if he plays it for too long. He traded it in, and got LBP and Fallout 3 on PS3. Funny, I asked him about Gears2, he sighed and said he's not buying another xbox right now(his 4th one) and that it's just gonna have to wait b/c R2 is dropping.
