Mirror's Edge Demo On PSN Today?
October is just about over, and boy, we hauled in some excellent games. Nobody can be disappointed with the titles available in the past month - LittleBigPlanet, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Far Cry 2, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift; just to name a few - and more are on the way in November. One of them is EA's very promising and potentially innovative action game, Mirror's Edge.
We've known for a while that developer DICE was using the PlayStation 3 as the lead platform for this title, and at one point, it was even rumored to be a PS3 exclusive. But while it is coming to the Xbox 360, this is one multiplatform title we will recommend consumers purchase for the PS3. Furthermore, if you want to go hands-on, you can do it today, Network users. According to D-Pad Magazine, you should find a playable demo up on the PlayStation Store today, and we're hoping this doesn't only apply to the UK. Jump on and check it out; the game will launch in the U.S. on November 11 and in the UK on November 14, but why wait two weeks? We've heard about a possible demo for quite a while now, and we actually expected it last week. But that rumor turned out to be so much fluff, and now our hopes have resurrected in the form of this new information. Critics who have gone hands-on with Mirror's Edge already have come away mightily impressed, so even if you don't get a chance to play the demo, keep this one on your radar.
Games have tried interesting variations on the first-person theme before, but rarely have they succeeded in revolutionizing the genre. But given the ambition shown in this particular game, we believe we're in store for something entirely fresh and new...

Most of the time, the PS3 and 360 versions of a multiplatform game are almost identical. That's a fact. Only rarely does one outstrip the other, and yes, with the 360 being more accessible and less complex, some developers can do better with that system. But those days are coming to a close; there's already a tremendous difference between 2007 and 2008.
Also, don't believe all the biased reviews that completely over-exaggerate the differences between PS3 and 360 versions. Take recent releases like Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. You can find headlines on the 'Net that say, "Far Cry 2/Fallout 3 looks and plays like sh** on PS3" (you really can), but that is NOT true. Look at our reviews; I played both the PS3 and 360 FC2 versions, and those claims are outrageous. They turn tiny drawbacks in the PS3 version - so tiny, 99% of gamers would never even notice - and proclaim it instantly inferior.
It's what fanboys DO. Even reviewers can be fanboys. But a lot of the big sites won't necessarily mess it up; GameSpot got the FC2 and Fallout 3 reviews for the PS3 correct, for example. Bottom line- don't worry about it. Contrary to the stupid biased belief, not all PS3 versions of multiplatform games are inferior. In fact, VERY few actually are.

That being said, and I'm not kissing butt, I do find that I agree with PSX reviews more than any other site out there.

The controls are ridiculously unresponsive and difficult to remember, the path is linear but still not easy to figure out which way to go, and the combat is just boring.
This is pass all the way. It's not nearly as good as Assassin's Creed, which everyone seems compelled to compare it to.
So far the best game of the holiday cycle is Dead Space (I haven't played Gears 2, Fable 2, or Little Big Planet yet)
