Final Fantasy XIII Gameplay Footage "By The End Of The Year"

We've been seeing images of Final Fantasy XIII all year, but only a scant few could actually be considered gameplay. On top of which, we certainly haven't seen any gameplay in video form, which is something everyone is waiting for.

However, according to Final Fantasy XIII-net, (details translated by a NeoGAF forum member), the latest information tells us we will see gameplay footage for FFXIII before 2008 is out. Square-Enix's Tetsuya Nomura spoke about the game in a Gemaga interview, and he says we will "see a battle scene in FFXIII before the end of the year." He also mentions the benefits of Blu-Ray for their ambitious RPG, and furthermore, they should soon release information on the game's expected-to-be-stellar voiceover cast. For many, this game remains the most anticipated title of the new generation, and despite the delays, it remains high on everyone's priority list. It is coming to the Xbox 360 as well - PS3 owners still haven't recovered from the sting of that announcement - but Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains a PS3 exclusive, and the PSP will get Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Nomura touched on that in the interview, by the way, and says the current battle interface for the handheld title is only "temporary."

As soon as we know more about this impending FFXIII gameplay, we'll tell you all about it. Is it too much to hope for a playable demo on the Network? It's probably too soon for that, but any sort of gameplay footage this year would satisfy us...for the time being.

I don't get why ppl r so pissed ff13 going multiplatform. In the end of the day it just a freakin game. But crapbox 360 is powerful if it can handle it and if mgs4 goes multi then this `ps3 IS powerful ยด crap is just typical sony bulls****. Hope it looks much better on ps3 not just 1 disk crap.

I really have a feeling they are going to optimize it on the PS3 using Blu-ray, then port over to Xbox 360, using as many discs as they need. Like 3-4...

360 development won't begin until the PS3 version is finished; then Square will port it over to the 360. So, maybe this will be the first game to look way inferior on the 360 than the PS3 ... after all, it was being developed exclusively with the PS3 in mind until recently. Oh the irony!

Though all the games in the Fabula Novas or whatever look good, I'm more interested in Versus 13. Not because its exclusively on the PS3, but because I like its style more. It uses more of a contemporary style as opposed to regular 13.

vsXIII is supposed to be entirely unlike ANY previous Final Fantasy title. Nothing traditional about it, as far as I know.

so in other words since he likes the benefits of blu-ray, so PS3 version should be extremely better then 360 version

Yeah, I love how he says how great BluRay is, but ignores the fact that they totally lose whatever advantage it gives them by putting it on the 360. Unless they forego parity entirely, which would be hilarious.

Square will be off my DNB list if they give the PS3 version to us when its DONE. none of this letting it sit on a shelf for 3 months while they port it to 360. THAT would make my head explode.

I am still upset about FF13 going to 360, not because I am a fanboy, it is just because the 360 has less capacity in terms of visual GPU power and CPU power. For a game like FF13, probably will max out the power of the console, so when it is going to 360, which has less potential to be maxed out, the game's quality has to be compromised to fit on 360 . Unless they make two mastercopies of the game, (one complete version for PS3, one lower version for 360), I dont see how the quality of the game is not compromised on PS3. Thats the real reason I am upset, not fanboyism.

Reasons for anger:
-So far all plans (strictly advantageous to M$) are to shelf the PS3 version and wait for the port. Why o why should we have to wait?
-Stolen exclusive of a Sony flagship.
-Dumbing down of an epic game (they have tried to dispel this but with shifty words this reader has trouble believing)
-Many many people bought the PS3 for RPGs alone, and this above all RPG hording on M$s part is pure treachery. We can no longer say "Well you can't play FF on that thing."

Some of this is all petty, and I've cooled off since the game is still so far off now that it isn't worth getting angry about. HOWEVER, as far as a know a game has NEVER been shelfed to wait for a port, a complete game should be released and this is inexcusable. Still want the game, but Squeenix better learn a lesson from this. And, once again, why isn't anybody CALLING them on this madness? All these interviews and no one wants to upset the SE Gods by saying: "Why would you sit on a complete game and alienate your largest fanbase?" That's all I'm asking.

ignore MS and their checks going out to developers. Sony knew about this back in april of 2008, because square can't screw sony over ... sony has 20%+ shares in square enix. but they kept the deal to have ff vs 13 on ps3 exclusive. besides that man, we ARE getting a better version of ff xiii on the real system, and it was made specifically for the ps3. so no worries.

besides that, i can't wait to play this game. i'm honestly more hyped for white knight chronicles than xiii and vs xiii.

I used to love the FF series, But unless they do something amazing with it....I'm not worried about buying it. I have ff12 and never finished it, Was not a huge fan of X, X-2. Never bought 11 because my internet sucked at the time it released...but I have all the others. I think maybe I've kind of played myself out on those games...I don't have the time to play them all the way through anymore...But is it a bad thing that square is going multiplatform? I don't think so..The series is getting old on the ps and is starting to feel it....X-Box Fans have been crying for it for awhile...It's new for them, let them have a go at it, that's just a good business plan. I find myself more excited over the fact that they may make a FFVII remake then the fact that they are coming out with 13...But I'm going to revisit 12 first and finish it, before I buy another FF.

same feeling here for FF series, I played all the FF games till 10. I had X-2, had 12, never finished both cuz I found the story and gameplay are not exciting anymore. And this came with Square's merging with Enix and FF father Sakaguchi's departure from Square. Since then, imo, Square has not released any real classic FF games. I will give a last chance to FF13 and v13, I still hv hope for them so far.

@CH1N00K - Wow, I'm in an identical position. All FF was great up until 8 ... 9 kinda waned a bit. X and X-2 gimme a break! Horrible. I liked how XII played, but the story was useless to me. Didn't finish it either even though I want to because the game play was fun. As bad as X-2 was, here comes XIII with another female lead. No offense to anyone. It just doesn't look promising.

I'm so sick and tried of M$ messing up my PS3 titles. It 1st started with multi-platform games. Xbox came out 1st and developers started making bad ports to the ps3. I still think that M$ wrote sum "bad port" check for insurance.

Then we started getting games later than Xbox. That was maddening.

Now we are starting to see 3rd party developers pull out of their original idea of making ambitious ground-breaking games that could only be done of the PS3. Then going multi-plat, now the game is just decent game on both systems. Stop holding the quality of my games back, Microsoft!!! Whatever happened to making art for the sake of art, not the $$$?

That FF13 announcement didn't bug me too much because I know Square wants to expand their market. But what did bug me, is that Square seems to have forgotten which fanbase put them to where they are today....SONY. I haven't seen a PS3 game from Square yet. But Square comes out with 3 exclusive rpgs for the Xbox, then turns around and makes a ps3 exclusive multi-plat? I have one word for that type of behavior:

BIAS.

Let Square continue to shun me as a PS3 gamer. I have no problem taking my JRPG money elsewhere (Looking at you LEVEL 5). FF13 is suppose to be done 1st on the PS3 then ported (super-compressed) to the 360. Supposedly, the English PS3 version will sit until the 360 version is complete in order to get a "simultaneous release worldwide". But my question/concern is this...What happens when something in the PS3 version can't be done on the 360 or its just is feasible to port it? Does Square go back to the PS3 version and "tweak" it to make the two versions more identical? Or do they just suck it up and announce that the versions will be different? In other words, will trying to do an originally exclusive ps3 game on the Xbox effect the integrity of the ps3 version? I hope games like mirror's edge (where the PS3 is the lead platform) prove me wrong.

Y'all feel where I'm coming from? Anybody feel the same way?

I feel you, dawg homie.

But if they "tweak" the PS3 NA release to match the 360 version, we'll only need to compare the 360 version to both the NA PS3 version and the Japanese PS3 version, since the latter will be released before work on the 360 version even begins. And the truth will set us free...

King James, I agree totally, i have read though that they are only going to start developing the xbox version FROM SCRATCH after they have completely finished with the PS3 version, so i dont think they will hold the english PS3 version back for a simultaneous release, since it would probably hold it back about 3 years.
I wouldnt think for any reason that they will downgrade the ps3 version just to make it more like the xbox version.

squares move to make games multiplatform. meaning all future releases will be the same.
is bad for multiple reasons.

FF13 started as a ps3 project. meaning it SHOULD be better then the port.

BUT in the future, FF titles will be made, with BOTH consoles in mind. meaning they would be of same quality. which we all know, is a bad move.

personally, when Square remakes 7, if they do anything BUT create the most epic FF game ever to be created, ill take my money elswhere, and the only console that is possible on, is PS3.

I'd just like to point out that FFX and FFX-2 are two of my favorite video games of all time.

Sometimes, there really is a difference between a "bad" game and an "unpopular" game.
