Sony Rumors: SOCOM, MAG, Infamous, Resistance: Retribution

Typically, rumors that begin with "a trusted source" are iffy; it usually depends on the situation, but sometimes, the information can be nearly 100% accurate.

The latest batch of Sony-related rumors comes from Ripten's "trusted source," who starts off with the most likely of the rumors, which is that Trophies will soon be coming to SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. This is a near guarantee in the first place, but we imagine the developers will further stabilize the Network play before that update drops. Next up, you may remember MAG, which debuted at E3's press conference: it's the massive multiplayer online title that will feature up to 256 players at once. Well, supposedly, they're "nearing its alpha stage of testing," and if that's the case, expect to see more news and updates over the next few months. In the same realm, the source reveals that the Sucker Punch PS3 exclusive, Infamous, has begun its testing phase. Neither of the aforementioned upcoming titles have an estimated release, although this may change in the near future.

Lastly, while Resistance 2 is guaranteed to rock the house, PSP owners are hoping the third-person shooter adaptation for the series, Resistance: Retribution, will also be worthy of a purchase. However, it seems that early feedback hasn't been very positive...although we're not really sure why. Shooters haven't fared well on handhelds over the past few years, though, so perhaps it's not much of a surprise. We'll be sure to keep you updated on all of this as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.

Trophies would be nice for the people who have been playing through a game that by most accounts wasn't quite ready to be released yet. Definitely picking up Infamous, I hope there is a demo for it though, just to get a taste.

I saw some online retailer had INFAMOUS w/ a March 2009 release date...don't recall where, though.

far as retribution goes, and with shooters not faring so well on the psp, i know i dont like them because i only get one joystick to use with a psp. if the psp had another joystic and maybe some more shoulder buttons, i guess they would fare quite well.

not that it would ever happen, but still ^_^

Actually, GameStop has a May 1, 2009, date for inFAMOUS. Take that however you want to take it, i.e. with a grain of salt.

The reason shooters have not been so popular seems very obvious to me after owning my PSP since launch. The controls. The analog stick on the PSP is not precise enough and even if it were you would need two. I sure hope the next portable that is released has proper analog stick controls.

That's confusing. All the previews I had read about Retribution were very positive. Even the X-Play ones (Gasp!)

I thought they had fixed the problem of accuracy by making it more of an adventure game, with targeting being a lot easier because all you had to do was get the enemy in your sights and it would automatically target them.

The game is by the makers of the Syhpon Filter game on PSP, so I doubt it will be bad.

Yeah I just don't think we've seen enough of RR to say if it sucks. However, atm I think it will flop but that's really only based off of one video and screenshot so who knows. Time will tell.

MAG looks good. it could smash res2 in online play. i hope it does because 256 layers is one hell of a battle, but they are gonna need bloody good servers. i had glitchyness with cod4, and that was max of 18 players. this could be amazing or hazing.hey i like thAT phrase.

MAG seems like a winner if stable. I hope that is a temp name cuz it sounds a little generic.

Its part of the charm ^_^

i just hope that the rumors of MAG having an additional monthly fee are bogus, cuz games are expensive enough anyways.

oh and @ wage, got a PSN ID?
