MGO Hits 1 Million Subscribers

It launched in June but it didn't take long for it to become uber-popular amongst the hardcore MGS fans: according to GameTactics, Konami has announced that there are now over 1 million MGO members! To celebrate this plateau, Konami will begin a "special campaign" on November 25, which will give gamers bonus reward points when they log in to the game.

This campaign will be called the "Metal Gear Online: Commemorative Campaign," and members can nab a whole lot of reward points between November 25 and December 9. These points can the be used to purchase all sorts of cool goodies from the online shop, and with the 10,000 point bonus you receive, you can get all kinds of stuff! But it doesn't end there: anyone who accesses MGO during the Commemorative Campaign period will automatically have a chance of winning an even bigger prize. Ten MGO-ers in each major region (North America, Europe and Japan) will receive 100,000 reward points, and that massive point total will be handed out on December 16. How's that for a reward haul? Of course, with a million registered users worldwide, your chances aren't good, but who cares? All you gotta do is sign in to qualify, and besides, you'll want those automatic 10,000 points, too.

Lastly, Konami will release a special GENE and MEME expansion bundle pack some time this holiday season for the price of $14.99. When we can gather in some more details on this expansion, we'll be sure to let you know about it. In the meantime, it seems that Metal Gear Online is indeed a rip-roaring success.

if it weren't for the freaking 2340987091 securities passes and the 245124123 passwords you need to remember. i'd be playing it RIGHT NOW. but the online mode is just disgusting with all the security and passwords and you know what? if you don't remember your password then you're screwed.

I wonder how many online players are active. I only played once.

And MGO won the award "The harder game to log into", it's a pain in the *

And it's just as hard to log on to Pro 9. Pro 9 and MGO both have the same separate log in thing. My guess is that every online game Konami makes will require a separate game ID.

1 mil subscribers doesn't necessarily mean they are all online i doubt even a fraction is online frequently.

IMO MGO doesn't have much going on apart from really good looking maps. i did give it a try even yesterday, but just didn't find the appeal.

and i don't think it has much to do with the Konami ID coz its just a one time thing, a lil effort in order to try the online segment. but ppl tend to blame it on the ID thing coz the fun and appeal just wasn't there.

I love MGO, why i wont buy SOCOM, don't need it so much. While its the best 3rd person tactical/shooter etc ive ever played it still leaves me wishing it was 1st person.

Online is godly and well done, the graphics are disgustingly good and the flow is smooth, but still i wish it was 1st person. I know im alone on this but nonetheless i still wish..
