Fallout 3 Tops UK Sales Charts

It's one of the best games of the new generation, and UK gamers are proving they read game reviews: Fallout 3 has topped the PS3, 360 and PC sales charts in the UK during the first week of the title's availability.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, first-week sales were actually 57% higher than the first-week sales for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Fallout 3 quickly knocked the former #1 - Fable II - off its lofty perch. Other games that cracked the top 10 in the weekly sales department were EA's FIFA 09, which now holds the #2 position, the globally popular Wii Fit, Far Cry 2, and Saints Row 2. Of course, Fallout 3 may not hold the top spot for very long, what with both Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 due out in November, but hey, Bethesda ought to be happy with their game's performance in the region thus far. Here's the current top 10:

  • 1. Fallout 3
  • 2. FIFA 09
  • 3. Wii Fit
  • 4. Fable II
  • 5. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
  • 6. Far Cry 2
  • 7. Quantum of Solace
  • 8. LEGO Batman
  • 9. Mario Kart Wii
  • 10. Saints Row 2

We have yet to see the official NPD numbers for the month of October for North America, but remember that Fallout 3 didn't release until the very last day of the month. For now, we'll just assume that American gamers are buying the excellent futuristic RPG at a rapid clip...aren't they?

Fallout 3 is an amazing game, I'm not very surprised. That reminds me, I gotta go play some more of it right now.

Ben - I did read your review. I just like to get the thoughts of others as I can probably afford one or maybe two games before the end of the year and there are so many good ones.

I can see the appeal behind the game (customization, content, innnovative fps w/ rpg elements), but I just did not like the feel of elder scrolls, so I figure my feelings would be the same with this game. Is that a fair assumption?

Not to sound like an ass, but this is absolutely the worst possible thing you could do. I thought Oblivion was GOOD because I needed my RPG fix. I think Fallout 3 is simply magnificent because it's that great of a game.

Don't even try to compare the two. They are radically different games.

The main problem i had with Oblivion was the animation, it was really poor, especially watching your person in 3rd person view, but its been cleared up nicely for Fallout 3, there seems more to do in Fallout 3, in Oblivion once i got a house i felt like there wasnt much else to do. You also get a stronger sense of consequence in Fallout 3.

Definitely, the animation was nauseating, and the third person view seemed more like an icon just sitting in the middle of the screen. Enemies were definitively generic, and the voice-acting was not so different from a grade-schooler reading out loud...But there was a whole lot of content. Maybe I demand too much style from a game.

2 second delays are a pain in the ass and it is a big deal to some, especially me since i have a lot of friends that play online

To combat this, turn off your system notifications when playing the game, problem solved. if you think you will get a message, you can always check. Other than that, i haven't seen any other glitches
