Will Resistance 3 Be Another Direct Sequel In The Series?

Warning: Minor Resistance 2 SPOILERS Ahead!!!

There's no doubt that Resistance 2 is one of the best releases of the 2008, and given its popularity and critical acclaim, it only makes sense to assume there will be a third installment.

And believe it or not, rumors revolving around the possible storyline have already begun to circulate. As VideoGamesBlogger points out, very early rumors have hinted that R2 would culminate in a cliffhanger ending that would leave players begging for a continuation of the plot. As some of you know, R2 tells the story of Captain Nathan Hale and his "last 19 hours to live," and his last words at the end of the sequel are: "Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It's beautiful... This is just the beginning." Throughout the story, Hale is battling the Chimeran virus within him and at certain points, a mysterious - yet clearly evil voice - speaks to him in his mind, telling him how the "superior" race of humanity is yet to come. This being the case, rumors are running rampant concerning the possible plot branches in Resistance 3, which might even include Hale's final dark transition; could Hale become a Darth Vader type of character, with a new hero ushered in for the third entry...?

Anyway, feel free to think aloud in the Comments section below, but although we've already provided the spoiler warning, please try not to give away too much. While we know a lot of you are currently playing R2, we're sure that most of you haven't beaten the single-player campaign yet, so keep crucial info on the down-low. ;)

Just beat the campaign mode, I gotta say, I'm loving the game more and more. The third one is definitly going to be interesting, I just don't know how to comment on it without giving away what happens. The only thing that I'm going to ask is, after the final battle, did he get strong enough to heal himself really quickly? Or the way it ended, is it how you actually answer the "call" ? I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to up the difficulty level and play through again.

although i don't think we'll see the return of hale i'd like to see the return of the narrator woman from the first. and i think perhaps telling the rest of the story from one of the other sentinels perspective wouldn't be too bad.

and we'll have to see what happens in resistance:retribution on the psp...

that could set us up with a hero to follow

I have my opinion on games i get the games i like, unlike gamers who only get 9+ reviewed games.
R2 is the 3rd best fps this gen behind bioshock and cod4 imho. It pises me off that reviewers can't review a bloody game. They keep on comparing it to gow. It deserves much better reviews and sales. Its one of my fav games so far. THere should be r3 and its gonna kick all your asses.

I think the whole R2 vs. GoW2 thing just boils down to what you're into. I got my R2 Tuesday and had been in the beta leading up to that. My friend (who's an xboxer) and I are loving it. So, last night, he goes to a midnight releast of GoW2 and brings his xbox over to play. We played for a while. I thought it was cool. The way the bodies blow apart is real cool. The cover system is real cool. Being able to chainsaw baddies and a couple other things you can do are real cool. It seems like a fun game to play if you've got a bunch of friends who are xboxers and they have the game also. But, all-in-all, I didn't see what all the hype and huge reviews were about. But, then again, I wasn't one of those people who were like "OMG, Gears 2 is coming out!" I never played the first game, and only saw it played a couple times. But, I think if you loved the first one, you're probably going to love the second one just as much. Those of us who were like "meh" to the first one sure won't be missing anything this time around. Especially with R2 out and the Killzone 2 beta out.

I think you posted in the wrong article APE. This has nothing to do with GEOW2 and R2 comparison. Frankly I'm getting tired of hearing people talk about them, They're both good games on different consoles...get over it. This Post was for people to comment on where they think R3 is going to go(without giving too much away on how R2 ended)

This is only an opinion but I wish they went more the way of COD4 graphics instead of the Ratchet and Clank graphics.

Some of the level design and artwork honestly look like cell shading or "comic book" graphics.

I was hoping for more realism. There are some areas that look great but then look at a car or pipes in a ceiling and (shrugs shoulders).

Had another thought...I was looking through the intel last night. There is a request to deliver a Letter to Nathan Hale from a Female British Soldier. Anyone want to bet that it's the Narrator from R1 and she's Knocked up with Hale's chimera infested Super child?

maybe if they do, they'll use Blake or Malikov. though Malikov is an old man, if Hale was the enemy then definitely i would want to use Malikov since he made Hale the way he is. i know its sounds dumb but to me not so much.

I don't know about Malikov..we already know he can shoot (said so in the game..lol) but he would have to take chimera steroids or something to make him a believable hero...

u no wat would be cool would be Nathan Hale turned into a chimera and you were still has a free mind and takes the chimeras down from the inside.....

or the guy who shoots him u plays as and u see Nathan Hale as a chimera and that guy who shoot tries to talk to and set him free and as the story goes on Nathan Hale breaks freer and freer as the story goes on and at the end Nathan Hale help attack the final blow against the chimeras

Or the other way around, Hale is full chimera and goes around killing humans, with short burst of conscience from his former self. In the end he'd probably have to kill himself in order to get rid of the disease..but could make for in interesting ending

I also just finished the campaign and I have to say that was one hell of an ending lol. I honestly can't wait to see what they come up with for the third installment.

I'm actually leaning more towards Hale's bastard child for the next one. First I found the intel #7 that has a letter to Hale from the Rachel Parker (the girl from RFOM). Now I'm playing through again and I picked up intel #4 that I missed the first time through. It's the Data Sheet on Nathan Hale himself. Nothing too exciting in it really except on Page 4, Where it notes the Citations of the soldiers. Hale has 2. Both for "Fraternization with SRPA Medical Practitioner Acklinka, Cassie." I'm leaning more that Capelli will have taken Hale's power and it will be up to Hale's bastard children to save the world. Or Capelli's job to wipe Hale's bastard children off the earth...one or the other.

I must say, after playing through the single player campaign, I am super-impressed by R2. R1 was, no doubt, a solid title, but R2 injected it with roids, and then refined it. Suped up gameplay, and production values, and it spooked me much more than the first one. Insomniac doesn't seem to have much patience for endings, and has consistent history of ending them adruptly, but it still rocked.
(SPOILER ALERT: In case you somehow missed the one heading the article)
The ending, ofcourse suggests a third one, however, it was ambiguous about the fate of Hale. Perhaps R:R for the PSP will shed some more light.

no really i just beat the game.. it was terrible i couldnt wait til its over same crap level after level. so glad that the main character got shot at the end, lets hope its over for resistance.. traded the game for the downpayment towards call of duty 5, mirrors edge and ps3 keypad today which im gonna pick up tomorrow. they need to make half life 3 or something. resistance really sucked it was unbelievable. graphics were trash, so was the storyline. killing all those lame monsters is really annoying with their front to back artificial intelligence. complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! do yourself a favor and rent it first if u want to be a sceptic.

Oh ok... I guess you really do hate it lol. I beat the game twice and to me it was a lot of fun. But now it's all about the MP for me.

I agree with you tho on the story. I mean Price kept saying over and over again that they listened to the gamers and scrapped the narrator and instead let the story be told through Hale's perspective. Yet they still don't seem to get the point what makes a good story. You need a narrator and SOME kind of plot lol. Not just "update me on the situation" and "time to fight!" kinda dialogue. I mean wtf lol. I just hope they can correct this in the future!

I would recommend this to any PS3 owner. If you don't like the campaign, move onto the MP. Look at COD4. Campaign sucked but the MP was awesome. It's definitely worth a purchase and NOT a rental!

It was ok, I thought the 1st one was just ok too. Bit disappointed to be honest, probably end up trading this one in for something else.
It was obvious it was going to end like that. He will probably come back or not be dead at the start of the 3rd one.

i reckon R3 has to take off from the direct end of R2. a prequel wouldn't do it for me - as there are many questions to be answered. I reckon it would be sweet to play as a chimeran hale. but i doubt well see him again, as he took one of those colt bullets to the head. also, i would like to see hale play a part in the conclusion of the resistance series (regardless of who wins). I hope he comes back, goes evil and pops some human ass, then is caught by SRPA, treated by malicov and is still chimeran but no longer evil, and he brings down
the chimera once and for all

I have beaten R2 and am seriously hoping for R3 soon! I think Capelli would be an awesome character in the third! The ending for R2 if you haven't beaten campaign mode will floor you!

Resistance 2 has a wierd but awesum storyline but in the end hale dies which means we probably wont see him again but capelli survives and you can tell he's pissed as hell so in resistance 3 the main charecter would probably be Capelli.

to be honest I don't think that they actually killed him they don't actually show him putting the gun to his skull and shooting him in the head nor do they show him dead. I think we can all safely say that hale was probably tranquilized. So they could try to administer the anti-chimera roids. I am thinking that since he got so close to the end of becoming one he will be able to go around control some of the chimera as his own personal minions. So this way they will still have there resistance to chimera but they will literally have ppl on the inside. which could be critical when it comes to the final battle with the pure breed of chimera and the rest of the chimera problems.

also the PSP version is going to have cartwright and that parker girl in the retribution game. So i doubt anything is going to be based off of them. it would be nice if they actually sent hale to europe and asia to get rid of the problems there if they destory the main town in russia wouldn't that take down the whole chimera problem?

Cmon guys how could you do this Hale has been in both Resistances and now your all excited about a new hero...YOU ALL DISGUST ME!!!!!!!!!! he will live i have a source...Nathan Hail survives the shot to the head and falls on the ground healing. (like deadoules before Nathan steals his power).

Yeah but if Hale knew he could die then surely he would have done something about Capelli shooting him in the head. So the point im making is that hail would have prevented Capelli From killing him so he knew that he couldnt die and therefore came back to life and compltely pwned the whole world.

Also what if the Darth Vader ending does happen but instead you dont become a new character and you stay as Nathan Hale and kick the earths ****. In my opinion that would be the best ending.

I Rekon insomniac will make tonnes and tonnes more because they coukld somehow save hale and then get him to go through each country on the way to Russia and wipe the threat out systematically. That will make another ten or so. and then he can go through all of the other countries around the world and wipe up the threat once and for all. Unrealistic but would be good.

In resistance 3 The cloven are the chimeras enemy so you team up with the chimera as capeli and hale to kill cloven it tells you in resistance 2 in the intel in mltiplayer
