EA Prepping Lots Of Dead Space DLC
We already know that EA is planning a sequel to Dead Space, but they're not about to look past the first title too soon. On the contrary, the downloadable content is coming...
Unlike some other publishers, EA wants to touch all the bases and give everyone a special little something; therefore, we will see both shared and exclusive DLC for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. According to GameSpot, the multiplatform content will include The Big Gun Pack, the Steam Punk Force Gun and the Hot Rock Pack, each of which you can pick up for $1 or 80 Microsoft Points. If you want to kick in another $.50, you can nab the Pedestrian Pack (new skins for the contact beam, plasma cutter and ripper), and then there's the Scorpion and Speed Killer Packs (faster-firing upgrades) for the price of $2.25 or 180 MS Points. For $3 or 240 MS Points, Dead Space fans can gain the benefit of the Astronaut Pack and the Heavy Damage Pack; both of which are exactly what they sound like. The final tier are several $4 packs, which consist of even more upgrades, like re-textured weapons and new suits.
As for the exclusive content, PS3 owners can get the Obsidian Weapon Skin Pack - it makes all the weapons appear black - for $1.50, or you can go all-out with the $3 Obsidian Pack. This one will even make your suit black as night, which means...well, it means there won't be anything but black in the entire game! All of this stuff will go on sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace on November 13 and on the PlayStation Store one week later on November 20.

But paying money for some skins, really? If you take a look at the actual list of content for those packs, most of it are simple skin changes for your weapons without any added benefit... I'm sorry, but I remember the days - which was not too long ago - where extra skins and the like were unlockable within the game itself... it seems petty to charge something for it now.
Heck, imagine if Naughty Dog decided to sell Uncharted "skin packs" and bonuses instead of including it in the game as a reward for your achievements... not so nice a vision now, is it?

again the point I think you fail to see is that the skin packs were not in the initial programming of the game. from a programmers stand point it takes time and effort to program even a skin. there is a lot of work that goes into it. suppose you are that coder and you make these skins after you have already made the game and then your employer says "hey all those skins you made, we aren't gonna pay you for your time."
I am not saying that it is best practice from a gamers point of view but in the end like troy said do you really NEED the extra content?

"Coverton" I am pretty sure that the Dead Space devs already had the code in the game to "plug in" these new skins since the new suits were available before the game even launched. I don't believe there was extra cost to changing some colors and textures on a graphic file and throwing it out to download.
I am not opposed to paying a little for some bigger extras like multiplayer maps, new levels, side plots etc. etc.
