Home Theme Beta Invites Delivered
Some time ago, Sony put a special PlayStation Home PS3 Theme on the Store for a free download. If you nabbed it, you were automatically placed in the running for a possible spot in the closed Home beta.
Well, according to European site NextGamer, these invites have now been sent out by Sony. So check your e-mail inboxes; if you were chosen to take part in the final testing for the closed beta, your key should've been delivered by now. Unfortunately, as has typically been the case in recent months when attempting to report on the status of the beta invites, we have no idea if this includes North American PS3 users. After all, the confirmation comes from a European gaming site, and we've seen no official announcement from SCEA on the issue. But perhaps all this mystery won't matter in a few weeks time; the latest release date rumor says the open Home beta will launch on either November 18 or 19, so the closed beta should be about to wrap up. Despite the delays, Home remains one of the most anticipated features of the PS3, and if you want a look and aren't in the beta, feel free to pick up Qore Episode 6.
There's a special tour of the application, which we just saw last night. It's about what we expected, but we do expect a great deal from Home. Oh, and if you're interested, Episode 6 also features some behind-the-scenes videos for Need for Speed: Undercover, new trailers for Tomb Raider: Underworld, and very cute Japanese chicks at the Tokyo Game Show. Hell, even one of the hosts tries on some cosplay costumes. Hot. ...er, this started off being about Home, didn't it?

I recently downloaded a 30mb expansion and it took 2 hours, it was very slow. I don't think the download was using the normal server capacity used for PSN specific content downloads. I can usually download large demo's in under an hour via the normal download route.
We will have to see, all I can say is this, that Sony will receive many suggestions form the general public, many ways the interface can be improved. Also helping Sony to focus in on areas of HOME that people want such as game accessing and managing friends more efficiently.
Whether people really want to use it as permanent virtual HOME, doing up their apartments, meeting with people and doing other things rather than game playing is another issue. I think time will tell what will be popular and what will not, and HOME will mature and develop along what users want... it is a never ending story...
Get ready for patches patches and more patches... downloads, downloads and more downloads :)

No one says you have to pay. But if you don't, you are on the other side of the gates...with the "short end of the stick." It's called life.

And whatever people may believe we do not get the same or more chances to participate in betas because all of these "invites" seem to only ever been sent to their selected beta testers.
It's not how it seems and i know this because like many others, i haven't been invited to anything from Sony, i am forced to use "backroads" so to speak. I wish it was the way most people believe it is but to be frank, it isn't.

As for the betas, EU was the first to receive the closed Killzone 2 beta AND many Home beta invites, so don't complain TOO much. ;)

that is actually the first time I have heard of anyone that downloaded the theme and is not an annual Qore subscriber getting into the Closed Beta no joke. I actually thought that Qore membership was one of the "determining factors" as Sony put it but I guess I was wrong. I downloaded the theme the first day it was available here in the US and have yet to see anything from it. I also spend a good 5-6 hours a night on PSN after work and have purchased many things from the PS store(well over a regrettable 200 dollar mark) just never opting for the Qore sub because I personally think online mags are dumb.

I really hope next year they improve greatly on what they have now b/c I like the concept, but it's just not there yet.
