Rumors: Capcom Going PSN Exclusive, CoD6 To Be Sci-Fi?

It seems that every time the weekend rolls around, the real news goes into hiding and the rumors come swirling to the surface. This is only logical as the companies that send out actual press releases aren't working on the weekend, but even so...man, these rumors can really stir up some debate.

So anyway, thanks to the latest HipHopGamerShow episode, the Internet is a-blaze with more rumors; two of which have caught our attention. The first is intriguing: it says that Capcom may permanently ally with the PlayStation Store and ignore the Xbox Live Marketplace. You may remember when Sony announced that Capcom would have its own section on the Store, so perhaps this rumor isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. But to go PSN-exclusive would also go against Capcom's next-gen multiplatform policy, so it's hard to believe this will ever happen. Then again, if Sony has repealed their own policy of never paying for exclusive anything from third-party developers, perhaps there's a chance after all... It seems unlikely, but we'll see what we can find out.

The second rumor is that Infinity Ward, whose turn it is to develop the next Call of Duty, has decided to take the next step that started with Modern Warfare: now they want CoD6 to go sci-fi. Considering the immense popularity of CoD4, this could be a very real possibility, especially if they want to prove to Treyarch they can continue to produce superior installments. Now, Call of Duty: World at War is great, no doubt, but perhaps not quite as great as Modern Warfare. So what about a sci-fi CoD6? Well, it's just another "wait-and-see" scenario. Stay tuned for more on both rumors.

COD6 gone sci-fi.... now that might be interesting, haven't picked up World at War yet though..... i'm still torn, i've read the review, it looks great, but for some reason, being on a very limited income(student/no job) I can't justifiably purchase it yet. plus there are tons of other great/appealing titles releasing in the near future esp. K2. and i still need to pick up R2 any suggestions?? and I need to save up money to buy a car....... anyone with worthwhile financial advice.... please advise.

I don't think that I would like Cod6 to be Sci-fi. It has been done quite a bit with many other FPS and I like how Cod4 is one of the more realistic FPS.

what would the weapons be? In modern warfare the weapons weren't too fantastical, but to go sci-fi? Idk...

I'd just hate to see it become a Halo clone, gameplay and weapons-wise. that would DEFINITELY marginalize the title and the balance of power would start to shift away from IW...

Capcom may bring certain things to PSN exclusively but games like SSFIIHDr will always be multiplatform.

This Infinity Ward thing is interesting. Though I believe it's just a combination of other things going on. IW is definately making the next CoD. But if you remember early this year there was talk that IW wanted to bail on CoD and start a new SciFi IP. I personally think they are working on two games, a new IP and a Modern Warfare 2. I can definitely see IW making a SciFi game, but I don't see them necessarily risking the CoD name on the idea though.

the reason i like the CoD franchise is for their more realistic depictions of warfare. to do a sci-fi would take away from that. it seems the vast majority of fps's are already doing sci-fi anyway, so why ruin a good thing? i feel like Infinity Ward should do a Modern Warfare 2, and maybe they could actually work a little with Treyarch on it to try to bring any good ideas together from both sides. Either way there's no denying that IW's last one was sick, and the main aspect that drew me in was the fact that its more like real war these days than anything else out there.

Don't see CoD SciFi happening, maybe ideas for 6 just seem more sci fi because they will include weaponry still in development by the military. CoD has always prided itself on being a realistic war experience.

In other places I hear Microsoft might purchase exclusive DLC for Street Fighter IV(which would be REALLY bad for me)

Anyway knowing Capcom this is a huge rumor which is hugely false too.

it may not necessarily be good, but it would be interesting..... COD as a sci-fi that is.... now if they just copied halo, that'd suck... i'm not sure there's much they could go in the sci-fi direction, what hasn't been done already?

I agree with 'NoMoreWar' and 'shadow', if COD it goes si fi, how does that becomes a genre in Call of Duty which deals with war, I m not really sold on it, but then again i was at first not sold on Modern Warfare and they proved me wrong!

i dont see IW doing COD as a sci fi shooter. i can see them doing a sci fi shooter all its own but i hope they do a modern warfare 2. modern warfare was THE game that got into the fps genre.

personally i like the past ww1 ww2 vietnam and what not and i loved modern warfare to but to go future sci fi i think that would destroy the cod franchise and woulndt appeal to me bullets for me not lasers

BLASPHEMY!!! I agree with NoMoreWar

Modern Warfare 2 would be sufficient.A polished up Modern Warfare with great maps and a SYSTEM LINK feature (not 1 player per PS3 like the first). I miss the halo parties I used to have... we linked 3 Xboxes 4v4v4 damn...those were the DAYS!

Also the new rumour that is floating around is that Bungie has left Microsoft for developmental differences and is bringing the Halo franchise to the PS3 and suing for right to the original 3 games and having every last copy destroyed. j/k omg how pissed would everyone be

man this is bull ish.. they made 50 games about ww1, ww2 and only 1 about the modern war. we are not done with the middle east yet god damnit. dont go fuccing it up now with some gay flying robots please.. at least two more! what about desert storm or the conflicts on the 80s and 90s? vietnam? wtf they need to watch some history channel and get out of space. im going to be really upset if its on some retarded alien shiit.

As cool as an 80's conflict sounds can you really imagine playing as Ronny Reagan or Mikael Gorbachav sitting behind a desk threatening to do something while the other side does the same. I mean the Cold War was probably the most uneventful drawn out war in all of history aside from the Australian/American war lol
Anyway I would actually love a Vietnam game that was as good or better than COD4

I don't think a sci-fi CoD will work, i reckon they should just do a more in depth modern warfare, for instance they could include a wider range of weaponry, like a mortar, or maybe even make the maps big enough for vehicles?!

it won't go sci-fi, i read in the official playstation magazine interview that they wanted to carry the story on from 4 for a few games and that they may try something new in the future

I think a near-future sci-fi setting would be a welcome change for the series. No aliens or lasers, but some future-tech that we're close to having IRL now, but not quite there yet.

I don't think it would be in Capcom's interest to go exclusive with any platform at this point in time.
I'm going to reserve judgment on a sci-fi Call of Duty. Those guys are some of the best in the business. If anybody can pull it off it would be these guys.

you all moaned about cod5 goin back to ww2 and it turned out good ..who cares wot era it goes to as lomg as it its good game with great graphics...there still a shortage of good games for the ps3

i remember that when people found out about IW going modern a lot of people hated it and a lot of people loved it, IW have shown us what they can do with COD4 so i have faith in them and i know there going to produce a fantastic game!!!

CoDWaW, havent justified itself as being the better shooter between CoD4MW. i think i will stick with my cod4 until infinity ward makes the next cod i dont really like when treyarch develops it. i prefer when IW develops it.

IW wont go futuristic on the COD franchise purely because it doesn't fit with the "Call of Duty" name-which intimates a twentieth/twenty first century army FPS to me at least. So how would it fit into a sci fi bracket? I don't see it at all. WaW, despite trying with the new co-op and zombies/vehicles still just feels like a second WW expansion pack for COD4. A massive one admittedly but I don't feel it's worth spending full price on when the gameplay is identical to COD4 just with rusty old weapons.

Anyway didn't the guy from IW say they weren't finished with the modern warfare setting the other week in OPM? Thats what I read anyway.

BTW no chance whatsoever of Capcom ever going PS exclusive-too many irons in old fires for that.
