Spike TV Video Game Awards 2008: List Of Nominees
In the past, the Spike TV Video Game Awards has been the target of much mockery among gamers. The awards have often catered only to the casual; handing out nominations to titles that are merely popular and not necessarily fantastic. But this year, even Spike can't screw up the obvious selections.
The fifth annual Video Game Awards airs on December 14, and a judge over at GiantBomb has revealed the full list of nominations for each category. As anyone would expect, the Game of the Year nominees are Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, and Grand Theft Auto IV. The Best Shooter category features Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, and a small surprise in the recently released Left 4 Dead (I'd call that survival/horror, but whatever). We have to agree with the Best Action/Adventure nominees, though: Grand Theft Auto IV, Dead Space, LittleBigPlanet, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. You can check out all the nominees if you visit the link above, and feel free to tell us where they messed up and where they're honoring the correct titles. Honestly, with a clear set of about 6-8 titles that are head-and-shoulders above everything else, it's tough to nominate junk.
The only part that's kinda odd is the inclusion of Grand Theft Auto IV in the individual console categories. It's nominated for both "Best Xbox 360 Game" and "Best PlayStation 3 Game." But Fallout 3 is also under the 360 category...to us, this only proves that besides Fable II, there wasn't another 360 exclusive of note in 2008. That's exactly say why analysts and journalists have said this year is the year of the PS3...
