The Agency Canceled? SOE Says No
After receiving a tip from a reader that GameFly has removed The Agency from member Game Qs, the rumor began to spread that Sony Online Entertainment had canceled the promising MMO.
After all, the only reason GameFly gives for removing an unreleased game from the lists is due to the publisher canceling the project. Obviously, this has generated quite a stir around the Internet, but it didn't take long for Sony to confirm that The Agency is most certainly not canceled. We don't really know why GameFly did what they did, and we're guessing we'll never know (they likely won't issue an explanation of any kind, as they're not used to dealing with industry press). But the bottom line is that although the title has mysteriously disappeared from the online game renter's website, this doesn't mean SOE has halted development. So if you see other titles dropping off GameFly's database, don't panic. As far as we can tell, they have no inside information concerning the progress of unreleased games, and there could be ten million reasons why something like The Agency gets "de-listed." At this point, though, all we care about is the relevant clarification.
Of course, now we're going to be searching about for more info and details, just because it seems like a while since we've heard anything new. A new update will help to ally any lingering suspicions, too.

That being said, The Agency is an MMO. Which means there is almost guaranteed to be subscription fees. No one with half a brain is going to rent the game from gamefly and then have to pay a seperate subscription fee. It's the same reason that Final Fantasy XI or any other MMO is up there. Unless someone comes out and guarantees that a console MMO will be FTP then don't expect gamefly (or any other rental agency) to stock it.

It really doesn't make sense to give a (full price) game an additional monthly fee, at least to me. Why would I buy a game that costs the same as any other game, but also has a montly fee tacked to it? There are tons of amazing games out there that dont become useless when I stop paying the fee...

Monthly fee's always come with good MMO's from back in the day with Asherons Call to Star Wars Galaxy's to World of warcraft. Games like this have tons of content and much broader scale of play than your run of the mill online shooters like SOCOM, COD4, COD5 and etc. Do I mind paying a subscription...If I enjoy the game...not at all!
