Codemasters Confirms Colin McRae: DiRT 2 For Next Year

There's no better way to honor lost lives than to pay tribute to their good name for all future generations to enjoy.

Although we lost a great champion when Colin McRae passed away last year in a helicopter crash, Codemasters plans to continue on with the video game saga that carries his name. During an IGN UK interview, the publisher confirmed that Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is currently in development and is due out some time next year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Executive producer Gaven Raeburn said that fans of the original DiRT can expect "more physical modeling of the environment, improved lighting and shadowing, and higher texture detail." As for what Codemasters thinks about using McRae's name on another video game-

"His ventures into events such as the X-Games, Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions have inspired us to look at events covering the extremes of off-road motorsport. DiRT 2 will be a great tribute, and we'll be revealing more about this over the coming months."

We expect to hear more about this highly anticipated sequel over the next few months, and if it really is bigger and better than than the original, it ought to be very worthwhile for every racing fan out there. It seems that with each passing year, the once-niche off-road racing genre gets more and more popular.

Played the first Colin McCrae: Dirt...

It was weird, it didn't feel like a Rally racing game should feel...

Gran Turismo's rally racing is much better in my opinion.

PS: Don' know which is more real when it comes to Rally, but GT feels better.

The game will flop, just like 90% of codemasters games

why are they still afloat? it would seem after so many failures, they would eventually have to go under...

Dirt was one of the most amazing titles that i played on the PC. It's visuals just blew me away. and i thought Dirt's car mechanics were pretty solid. and the Damage modeling was quite spot on. I'm looking forward to this, but don't know how it'l do on the ps3.

umm war kid, they have some of the best, realistic car physics around in their games. their games are FAR from flops.

if it's gonna be a tribute, better make it kickass.

nothings worse than looking back and realizing "somebody made a videogame tribute for me and NOBODY BOUGHT IT"

Yeah...
I'm actually rooting for them

I love racing games with a passion, and rally is fun if done right(Rally Cross anyone?).

Gran Turismo does a great job with its Rally side(though it was kinda harsh in GT4).

Hope they just give us a lot of tracks to play in. Nothing gets more boring in a Rally game than less than 10 stages....

Also give us weather! I know in real life they don't race while it's raining, but make it fun, give it as an extra, ya know.

A lot of Rally inspired games can learn from Rally Cross(ps1's best rally racing game).

I hope it does well. I remember playing the original Colin McRae on the PS1. Good game.

I loved the first DiRT on the PS3, but yeah, the online play was a little lacky. I wanna ACTUALLY race against others online rather than COMPARE times. It's gonna be way better in the second though.

Like Scarecrow said, give us different weather. Nothing better than racing in the rain only to crash at the next corner via flying into a ditch lol. Can't wait for the second!

Dirt 1 sucked, they should make dirt 2 similar to Grid; that was a hell of a game!

Colin McCrae 3 and 2005 games were great in my opinion. I played the demo for the new one and it just didnt appeal to me at all. This coming from a fella thats won his championship class12 navigator in a mark 2 escort!!Also they need to bring back nicky grist.Im sorry but american notes are just shocking to listen to and way too late.

Agreed about CM3 and 2005. Those were great! Dirt was more floaty supposedly arcadey but they messed up. Codeys are trying to appeal to more people specially in America but they ended up alienating rally fans like myself.

BTW Dirt was just called Dirt in america and Colin Mcrae: Dirt in Europe. Please have his name in all territories otherwise I dont consider this respect.
